Enough is enough
Most of the new Porsche owners have no clue. I drive my 997 and a couple of 356's around. A roadster and a coupe both very nice. Most of the time I will pull up next to a new 997 with a 356 and the person driving doesn't even look over or have a clue what I am driving. This tells me they are not enthusiasts of anything other than themselves looking cool. Most of the older 911 drivers wave but the new ones.....mostly posers with no idea of the heritage.
When I was growing up all sports cars would wave not just Porsches to Porsches but all sports cars...things do change.

i drove next to a guy with a 928 on the freeway the other day. when i got beside him i gave him a thumbsup. he imediately stared me down and then dropped it into 3rd and took off like a bat out of hell. i guess he wanted to let me know that his 928 was still a better car then mine.
i just wanted to say hello
i just wanted to say hello

Fellow Porschefiles... It is'nt just about waving back
It is our duty to continue spreading the culture....
We must educate the novice pcar owners.
Yes, there are people out there that will always think
that they are superior.( We will let God handle those)
As I age I don't get excited about much other than
getting in my Porsche and just going..
no destination
just drive
If I wave and people don't wave back
I just hope they learn about Porsche and its history
With others we must spread the knowledge.
Ferdinand , Ferry, James Dean, Helmut Marko, Mark donohue, Peter Gregg, Hurley Haywood,Jerry Seinfeld, Paul Allen, Richard Sloan, Brumos, Martini, Tag and many more....
are part of this culture
Many people dont know why the Key is on the left
or Ferdinand Porsche wash jailed by the french 3 years before his death
and released to build the Cistalia ( 450 hp 4wd race car)
Others dont know Bill Gates was arrested for driving a Porsche in New Mexico
We need to move forward with the objective
Share the culture and unbridled passion we all share
you are the future and the Heritage...

I was 13 and riding shotgun in my uncles black 911. I think it was 1965 (MY66). It was the first 911 delivered to So Cal. We were driving home to Laguna from the dealer which was Cotton Goff in I believe Garden Grove(?).
I think EVERY car we saw either flashed us or waved or gave us the thumbs up.
I was sold on black 911's from that day forward.
I always wave or flash other p cars. I'd say 10% reciprocate.

Sad but in many cases Porsches are bought by people who treat them as jewelery. I only bought my Porsche after I did the marriage and get the kids on there way thing, I owned some nice cars but nothing compared to the Porsches I have owned (only 2 of them!), in the meantime I enjoyed Porsches (and other fine cars) either vicariously or through friends.
I started lusting after them in my poor student days when I got a good look at a 924, by the time I could afford one I had watched all the 911 variants come and go; 911 – 930 – 964 – 993 – 996 (my least favorite) to the 997 and in the end one of the reasons I bought a 997 was the heritage so I always wave (top down) or flash (top up) other Porsche drivers and try to flash back if another sports car flashes me – it is all part of the fun and it recognizes the heritage of the Porsche.
