Importing a 911....usa to quebec
hi,
i have decided that i want a 911. and i have realized that the best deals are in the states on slightly used ones. I need automatic transmission and navigation, and a light interior. other than that it must be in great shape...the rest i dont care.
has anybody any experience with this or pricing ideas. i assume there will be tremendous savings on lightly used ones with auto, as the new 911 came out with pdk
i found a 2008 with 1500miles for about 65000? any ideas.
do you guys have reputable sellers to talk to who know about this.
I think a c4s would be ideal, but 2008 is a requisite...
thanks a lot

$65,000 for a 2008 911 might be a bit low depending on options. A 2008 no option Carrera non-S was about $77,000 US when new if my search was right.
Porsche really lets you “have it your way” when ordering: everything is an option so it can be difficult to do a true “apples to apples” comparison between used listings online. (For example: 2 types of seats with 2 types of adjusters with 3 levels of leather and/or heated and/or crested gives 20 to 30 possible seat configurations – all with different pricing). Remember to add 7% duty for importing a used car that was not made in the US, plus 5% GST (yes, for a used car) plus PST for your province. (Although the rules in Quebec can be different). That $65,000 car will cost you closer to $75,000 by the time you have it registered in Canada.
You might be better off waiting a bit to see if the one you like shows up for sale already in Quebec. There is a much more active market in Montreal for sports cars (compared to the rest of Canada) and usually quite a few for sale there.
Talk to your local dealers to see if they have any expected back from short-term leases.
The virtual flood of 911s already being imported from the US has really driven down the resale value of the cars in Canada to the point that the financial advantage of importing is negligible. A recent check online showed 18 911’s (2006 and 2007) for sale in Alberta and only 3 of them were originally Canadian cars – the rest were recent US imports.
The reason to import one now would be if you cannot find the combination of model and options you want. There are hundreds of 911’s for sale at any given time south of the border.
My 2 cents anyway.
Good luck with your search. You might want to consider 2007 and 2006 models in your criteria – there are a lot of them with very low mileage for great prices and you still get two or three years factory warranty.
