Garage opener

Has anyone been able to get the remore garage opener to work. I think I follow the user manual on my 997 but I never have sen the double blink of the fog light and tried with several remote controls. Is there a minimum distance from the that round spot on the front bumper you should operate?

Tks for sharing experience. P

Yes. I was able to program mine with no problems by following the owners manual (as it looks like you're doing).

My only problem is that the range on the Porsche homelink sucks! Whereas the homelink in my other two cars allows me to open the garage from way up the street, I have to be in front of the garage door in the 911 to open it.

Tks. How far from the bumper did you stand when recording the code? How long did you wait before the fog lights flash? Do you let the engine on or just ignition?

I also was able to get my opener to work for both of my garage doors. I stood about 2 feet back and the parking lights started blinking almost immediately.

Got mine to work pretty easily as well. I had my car sitting just outside the garage to program it. I did not use the remote since most newer garages have a rolling code and the remote won't be able to program the homelink systems. Did you try seeing if your remote receiver in the garage has a button to program the homelink transmitter?

My experience is the same: easy programming, short range.

I live in a condo building. I have tried numerous times as well as a Porsche salesman, but with no luck either. Maybe my remote has a rolling code? Any suggestions?

Most new door openers have rolling codes. You need to temporarily lock the rolling codes while you do the synchronization with your car system (check the instructions for your door unit). Once synchronized, your car system will work with the rolling code opener. In my case, my old opener had rolling codes, but no way to lock them, so I wasn't able to synchronize with my car. With my new opener I was able to synchronize and it works great.

It depends if it is a fixed code or changeable code. If its a changeable code like mine, then it has nothing to do with the remote. All you have to do is something with the button in your garage box. I can't really remember what, but you can just look in your owners manual and it should say there.

the dreaded rolling code

I have a rolling code garage door opener - they tried programming it for me at the dealer but it didn't work.

All I had to do was get up on a ladder to push the learn button on the back of my garage door opener, then go in the car and push the Homelink button I had programmed 3 times. on the 3rd try it closed the door and has worked great ever since - can open the door from as far as the remote can reach.

My only gripe is that Homelink buttons don't work with the ignition shutoff, so when I roll in the garage, I have to hit the button before I shutoff the car. I have Homelink on my Lexus and the buttons still work when you take the key out. Small gripe but I will get used to it....

Most newer garage door openers have rolling code. You can not program with your remote. You have to do it via garage door opener. Time to get a ladder.

Rolling Code:

1. Park in garage.
2. Turn ignition on (not engine)
3. Press the "learning" button the actual garage door opener (usually by the light bulb).
4. Push the button on your porsche homelink (or have someone else in the car to do this, as you usually on have 30 seconds)

After you press and release the button on your porsche homelink, the bulb on the garage open should flash, this means your car has "learned" the code.

BTW I have a Genie from Home Depot
