Porsche Option: - Without catalytic converter
Porsche Option: - Without catalytic converter
Hi everyone,
As you can see this is my first post, but I've been lurking around for the past couple of weeks.
I got a CarreraS PDK on order, should be Feb 09 production, am very excited about it and can't wait to get my hands on it!
Coming from a modded BMW, 07 e92 335i, I'm very keen to explore the Carrera's performance and limits, handling and steering response in specific, as I'm a spirited and performance oriented driver.
I have a single query though and I'll be glad if someone can help me out.
When I was at the dealer configuring my car I found a no cost option that wasn't present on the online configurator, which was the "Without catalytic converter" option. Was excited and chose to go for it as well as for the PSE, the question is this going to cost me some low end torque? or will Porsche load a specific tune to go with the de-cat and make up for the lost torque, does the new exhaust system (997.2 S which has the cats on the headers) have enough back pressure that this mod won't affect the car's driveablity at low RPM? Any input is appreciated.
Best regards,

Don't you care for the air you breathe where you live? not to mention all the real bad pollution you add to the global atmosphere? We are talking nitrous oxide, carbon monoxide, and sulphur. We are not talking CO2 which in the grand scheme of things is innocuous compared to the real bad stuff a catalytic converter eliminates.
P.S. - Shame on PAG offering such an option.

I have heard about this option for the Middle East. I would like to know as well out of curiosity why this is even an option and what Porsche does with the ECU programing to compensate for less back pressure.
Another option I do not understand on a Porsche Carrera is Park Assist. Can people not park a small sports car without bumping into things?

Ido care, but since Its not going to be my dd I chose to go for theextra hp gain and louder exhaust note, useful for track days, PAGoffers this option for customers buying their cars for track use. Don'tforget there are much worse factors contributing in polluting the airother than my tiny little P.
Coming from a BMWcommunity a cat delete wasn't such a major issue over there, most willdo it for the extra gains, especially on a turbo vehicle.

I got park assist just to make it a full package, as well as it's helpful when your backing up into a concrete wall
