Just imagine you're a buyer of modest means comparing a new 997 at 90k to a gently used 996 for about half that price!

DEVEK GT is infamous around these parts
I tend to agree with the sentiment, but without exception, buying a Porsche, especially a base model Carrera, is one of the less expensive ways to burn money on newly released high-end sports cars.

If you expect better than 50% retained value over four years on just about anything short of a limited edition collector car from the middle of last century, you should be looking to buy a bridge in a major city on the east coast ... : )

I've lost the thread here -- these are radically different cars; is this related to retained value over four years or as alternatives to forking over $100K for a Carrera (hence reasons why the 997 might not be selling fast.)

I think the $100K threshold demands something " special " in buyer's mind. An SL55, S55, S600 in the MBZ lineup for example, or Turbo/GT2 or at least a C4S Cab or GT3 when normally aspirated . A rear wheel drive C2 ( 997S ) with base body width , 350 hp , and an interior and exterior that any optioned out base 325 hp 997 can copy might be giving buyers pause.

Absolutely. Almost $100 grand for a "regular" 997S? to me that's absurd

ditch the $8000 brakes

that helps a bit in swallowing that sticker price.

Why are they not selling? Because you can buy a 996 turbo for $100,000.00 and have a much better car. They are crazy to think they will sell many 997's at $100,000.00

Just my humble opinion of course!

You either haven't driven the 997S, or if you did, you didn't really *drive* it.

Under hard charging, the chassis really shows its brilliance. It is that much better than my C4S.

Anyway, 2 hours after I drove it on Saturday, it was sold. I went back yesterday to take it for another dance, and it was sadly absent from its appointed parking spot.

If the dealer does not rape me on my C4S, I'll place an order this week.

I'll post a follow up when I find out. If it's horrific, I just won't do it. There are 4 other dealers to ping though.

EDIT: BTW, the earliest build date I could get was December, for Jan/Feb delivery. There are at least five people in front of me, and both demos the dealer had are now sold.

comparing prices of new (998) to used (Turbo) isn't really fair.

almost all new cars would fail a comparison for example new M3 or used 993 Turbo? ... the difference btw those 2 cars is much greater imo than the diff btw 998S & 996 Turbo.

even at a 100k the price is similar to SL500 new ... which is better? unarguably the 998s
