There is a noticable difference in getting to speed, but those corners are fun to go through without slipping. The C4S does feel heavier, but I can live with it. I love it. it's my daily driver. You can always lighten up the front end with ceramics and I even read a thread that stated you can take off up to 8 kg per corner with mods.. Either way both cars are awesome, it all depends on personal taste.
you are right baby doc-it depends on personal taste-you and i like the extra traction. i just think that the 997.2 c4s is some complete car, if you need to have 1 car. if i lived in arizona, i probably would not get a c4s-with warm roads all year round, a c2s would be my car, if i was going to get a non turbo car.

I couldn't really do with just one car. I need something that I can use for business every once in a while and I don't really feel comfortable picking up prospective clients in my Porsche.
i agree with you on that point lig-everyone is not able to use 1 car for all purposes. but as you say, if you live in the snow belt and you want to have one car, and that car needs to be something that can boil your blood now and then, the c4s would be a prime candidate. by the way, did you see the recent reports about people with another awd car, the nissan gt-r, destroying their transmissions by using the launch feature over and over again?-now nissan doesn't want to pay for the trannys, and they are going to discontinue the launch feature in future cars. i wonder what will happen to the pdk equipt cars with launch in the porsches?

One of my best pals has a GT-R. It is insanely fast and I would consider one if I could only have one car.

I was really keen on getting one until discovering the cost of a track day in that beast. Changing the tranny and diff fluids after each lapping day would be roughly $900 in just fluids.

One session @ Pacific Raceways trashed his rt front tire. Yikes!

Luckily he has an Elise for track duty.

Personally I would only use launch during an auto-x (not a 1/4 miler or a street racer) so I'm guessing if I ever get a Pcar w/ PDK the point would be moot.

Funny timing of this thread - I was talking to the wifey about the "one car" thing last night and I'd be tempted to say I would choose an R8 and borrow her Infiniti FX for when I needed to haul clients around.
Only one car?!? That would kill me. I might go for a B8 RS4 Avant if they bring one over to the US.

One thing I absolutely love about the C4S is the wide body fenders. Very sexy.

i have never drove a gt-r-i would love to get a drive in one, but i don't think that is going to be easy. on nbc.com, if you go to jay leno's garage feature, he does a test drive in a gt-r-he shows you just how fast that baby is. he also comments on how heavy it is, i think about 3800 lbs. mitsubishi used to make a 300 hp turbo car called a vr4 that was also heavy-it also ate up front tires because of the weight. hey, i am not criticizing a gr-t-i would love to have one. the car sounds like an animal.

The GT-R is an animal. You should absolutely try and find a ride or a test drive in one.

It's heavy all right - but it is definitely the real deal.

If they could only package it up as a true 2 seater in a lighter car it would be just about irresistible.

i see that some dealers actually have a gt-r in their showroom now-a few months ago, it was list plus 20 grand or so, but i would bet that the premium has gone away, but i could be wrong about that, as i know nothing about the gt-r market. there are plenty of them on ebay. the closest that i have gotten is watching that film on len0's garage. i have seen an r8-i was surprised at how small the car is in person. it was sitting next to a ferrari 599 at a dealer in west palm beach. on the other hand, the 599 was bigger than i thought. what a monster that baby must be. and a beautifully made car. i am just going to be happy with the turbo for now.

I would be thrilled to have a 997TT in my garage!

The GT-R market is definitely cooling off. Sadly, my business has fallen off to the point to where the GT-R is not on my radar at the moment.

6'7" Yikes!

GT-R is a big car. Not sure you'd like it better than your TT unless you wanted to save some money by trading down - especially if you don't go to the track routinely.

no track for me in a long while-it looks like the interior of the gt-r is nissan all the way-not that it is bad, but the porsche has a higher quality interior. but, for the money, the gt-r is some deal.

I got the to drive a GTR twice at a dealer. They wanted "new" MSRP. The car is awesome to drive. Insane fast (this is coing from a modified Supra owner). I got it up to 120 mph or so on a turn.

I was real close to purchasing it.....until I spent time on a forum. I think the car will be a maintenance nightmare. You can buy a maintenance package from Nissan, but what happens when that wears out. I keep my cars until they don't run anymore.

The transmission is $14,000 and cannot be rebuilt. That would kill me to put that much money into a used car.

I believe it is confirmed that Nissan will remove the launch control for the MY2010 GTR's.

The GTR is a statement car, not meant to be driven every day......or a fun car to lease and give back to Nissan once teh fun is over.

From what I read on a gt-r forum last night, I would have to agree with you. Discounting the fact that a lot of forum members are going to complain, this issue of eating up tires, replacing fluids for $1000 after racing, lots of warranty issues including the $14000 tranny and the launch problem, where people who repeatedly use the launch feature are burning up the clutches and trannys. The car seems to be marketed as a monster, but when you treat it as such, it costs. Think of a vette-you could get a simple c6 with an automatic, stomp on that baby day and night and not much would happen. I agree with you-a gt-r on a 2 year lease makes sense. I would bet you like many cars we drive, a gt-r in 2 years will be a far different car. I think marketing wise, nissan is making the same mistake that toyota made with the supra-an upscale car like the supra should have been sold and maintained thru their lexus division, as the gt-r should be sold through their infinity network-a better place to deal with customers paying upwords of 80k for a car. When these warranty issues come up, they are going to have to be handled tactfully.

One more point that I wanted to make concerning thr gt-r vs a c4s or maybe more appropriately a turbo-the gt-r is by no ones estimate a good looking car-the interior is nothing close to porsche-like (fine leather, stitching, lots of carbon, etc.) In addition, the porsche has earned a reputation as being a highly reliable car after many years of use-the gt-r has been here for a few months and trannys are frying. When you buy a gt-r, you are not buying a finely made porsche, you are buying a car that is a monster and is marketed as a monster. When some of the owners treat it as such, it seems like the problems are beginning.

GT-R = Ugly

I'm sure it's great to drive, but it's butt ugly!

As to the C2S vs C4S, I had a C4S and just don;t feel I need it. It's a personal preference. The C2S does just fine in winter until the snow gets above 5" and at that point no Porsche is going to work.

I had tossed and turned on a nightly basis before I decided on which Pcar to buy. It was to be my 1st Porsche, with and wife mandate= convertible and auto/tip.

As we usually only drive on the weekends, we only have need for one car ..so I decided to go C4S just incase the great north east winters come callin when were out and about. Just so happens this past Sat we went to visit my mom who lives in rural NJ where ther are alot of twistys and rolling hills. 4 hours later there was approx. 2" of sleet and snow on the ground and we drove 40 miles home without any problem at all.Not saying 4S was essential to make it home, but it really pulled through nicely and I honestly felt more at ease. So..

For someone in my position, 1 car family, wife nervous about not having awd, northeast winters..the advent of the C4s allowed me to get this one past the wife and purchase my 1st Pcar. If you are into performance and track, and have a DB(daily beater,or better) CS(TTif you have the $$) is probably the way to go...and this is coming from an A$$ MAN
