Factory HID
I've heard about heat issues when guys replace 55w halogens with 100 w ones and warping the plastic lens, but I've also heard HIDs run cooler, and at ~55 watts, I'm thinking may not produce enough heat to cause damage. Have you heard otherwise?
i believe it's just at a different height & angle of the light.
Quite yellow? I would not characterize them as yellow at all. The light is quite white, especially compared to the standard halogens. If you think that this is quite yellow, I think your impression of what is neutral has probably shifted due to too much exposure to overly blue lighting.
There is a bit of conflicting info depending on where you read about the 997.2: the brochure says "all new 911 models get bi xenon lighting" but if you read the "detailed spec" pages online it shows the new C2 having H7 Halogen projectors and the C2S having bi xenon projectors. Physically they look identical from the outside. If dksu's C2 has H7 Halogens that would explain the yellow look completely. Just a thought.
Wow, I wouldn't suggest taking your new car apart! Maybe get the dealer to turn on the lights on a non-S and and S, hold some white paper in front and even in daylight you should be able to tell the difference. Halogens are quite yellow compared to Xenons. I'd probably be too distracted by picking up a new car to do any experiments though. Congrats on the new purchase.

I've had 993, 996 lamps apart .... changed out bulbs on all.
And sitting here, I have a pile of mod parts waiting for this ... She'll actually go from the dealer to the tuner for the suspension & small body work before she comes home.
You should not have to take anything apart. Just sit in the car, turn on the headlights and see how they come on from the reflection on the wall. HID lights come on in a very distinctive way, firing up slowly, vs the more immediate on of halogens. If you do take out the light assembly, the presence of the transformer gives it away as well. I guess the key is to look at the lamy.. what does the sticker say comes on the car?

No ... I just couldn't believe that they were still using Halogens on anything, even on regular C2s.
I have Porsche order guides for all the cars & just checked ... they show 'Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic leveling" listed as standard equip on all models.
Color temporature is not shown ;-)
