Verde: I think the comment on the age of your kids may have been in response to another comment you made recently regarding the need to have rear seats in your car. Also, again in reference to one of your comments yesterday, I wouldn't feel bad about "just" modifying your 05 C2S. Looking at the cars in your stable, I think you're doing a good job in stimulating the economy.

Edit: Oops, I think it was someone else, on Rennlist, that commented on the need for rear seats. Sorry.

Well, I enjoy my '09 C2S more than my 997 turbo. Its not faster or quicker, of course, but it is just plain more fun - more tossable and the engine power is instantaneous (no lag) and still quite substantial.

The sport suspension is perfectly fine even on the crummy roads here in pothole heaven NJ. My wife complained every time I took her out in the 997 turbo about the ride, but has no complaints about the '09 sport suspension in normal mode.

Although, I sold my 07 997tt awhile ago, I would have to agree with you, Alan. I thought that the 997.2S w/SPASM (test drive) was much more raw/fun! The power of the 997.2S is substantial; albiet not turbo-like. I do prefer NA engines anyway.

Anyway, I liked it so much I am ordering one: w/ SPASM w/LSD, Sport Exhaust, Sport Adaptives, 6 speed, etc...

Alan, did you get PDK? If so what do you think?

Not to be a pest, but who has went with the 4s .2 and how does it stack up to the 2wd version.
I mainly like the looks better of the wide body and feel weight difference would be minimal.

The main thing for me would be feed back through the wheel and will it under steer more than the 2wd version?

I would expect the difference between AWD and RWD to be the same, regardless of whether or not it is a 997.1 or 997.2.

It seems like they improved everything. The suspension, the brakes, and the acceleration!! I got to test out the launch control and my buttometer told me it was a lot faster than mine.

So after 5 month it may be time to take the hit and put it up for sale. I think I may have to get the 09. So a word of warning to all 997.1 owners, stay away from the 997.2, and whatever you do don't test drive them !!
Sound advice. I am definitely staying away.

Ahh, got it. I don't recall the back seat comment though.
My kids have either graduated or are in college, so I must have somehow mislead the witness I guess (I did stick the ex-football playing one across the back for a short trip once. I had to butter up the leather to get him out).
And yes, I guess I'm either a perp, and an economic stimulator. Or both

No PDK for me - My '09 C2S is carrera white, natural brown leather, adaptive seats, thicker steering wheel, aluminum shifter and hand brake, sport suspension, sport shifter and 6 speed manual, of course.

My 14th Porsche and my best one (so far)

Congrats!

I confirmed my order tonight: meteor, sport adaptives, SPASM, PSE, short shifter, SC, thicker wheel, and likely aluminum e-brake and shifter. It's due in the middle of Apr. Just in time for spring.

I think the 997.1 looks so much better then the new version. I am sure the 997 will be timeless, the GT3 version was an instant classic. I don't like the changes Porsche made in the design. There is however now doubt in my mind that the 997.2 is a better car.

Alan/911Dev,

Nice to see some people are buying 997.2 with manual transmissions. If I were buying a new one, I would get a 6MT instead of the PDK.

Post some pictures.

Have you gotten to drive a PDK? I've been driving manual for the last 15 years or so and PDK with Sport Chrono shifts so much faster than I ever could, and on the flip side it is also extremely smooth. To be honest its the first time I have no doubt I'm ready to drop the 6 spd.

I test drove PDK quite extensively. Although, very fast -obviously faster than a human- it was too sterile for me. Also, if I made the leap, I'd have to have paddles rather than steering wheel buttons. If I were on the fence, wheel buttons would be a deal breaker for me.

If absolute speed was my first priority, I would have kept my turbo.

Here's the problem for me - I had bought my daughter a GTI with V6 and the DSG transmission with paddles. For about a week it was fun to use the paddles, but it got to the point that there was no "challenge", so I just left the car in auto mode all the time. In a few weeks the GTI was just another automatic car, as far as fun was concerned.

The PDK is incredibly competent, but so was my turbo - just not alot of fun. The 6 speed 997.2 with sport shifter and sport suspension gives me back what I missed in the turbo. But I tell you, the 997.2 turbo with PDK will be a perfect match - keeping the turbo spooled up with the lightening shifts - what an acceleration monster it will be.
