997.2/PCM3.0 iPod install update / Suncoast Porsche
Oh, and on the Video output - I put this up as additional information for those who may be curious. Again, I didn't claim the Porsche cable supported video, or that something is wrong with your cable because it didn't support video.
I deal with a lot of iPod adapters myself (Dension for Porsche, Peripheral, USAspec, VAIStech and others). They all went through a lot of grief when Apple changed the charging scheme of their iPods/iPhones (the 3G iPhone will only charge via 5V USB pins, now) - they had to release new charging cables or adapters. Now, Apple requires an authentication chip to enable video output from the 3G iPhone, at least. And in the future, it may be more of the iPod models, too.

i dont have iPhone, but classic all the way up to 6th work just fine. PCM3 has to be programmed with PIWIS to enable USB/Media connection (vin specific code is obtained from Porsche). there is a TSB on renntech on the subject matter.
I installed the OEM multimedia parts for the PCM3 (whole kit from Suncoast) into my friends Cayenne. We're still waiting for the activation code to complete the installation, however.
As a note, when I plugged in my 2nd Gen Nano, if showed that it was charging. However, when my friend plugged in his 3G iPhone, it threw up the "unsupported accessory, go to airplane mode?" message, as well as the "iPhone does not support charging with this accessory" message. I'm going to get my friend on of the Scosche Passports so that he can charge his 3G iPhone on this system, then.
Another word of caution, PCNA is being careful with handing out the enabling codes for this accessory. You need a PCNA order number in order for them to provide the code - and they want to see that you're ordering the whole kit. SA321, how do you work around that? I saw a NAV-TV "code breaker" that may be a workaround. It is supposed to plug into the PCM3 and then enable the feature - not sure of the cost on that one, though.

Couple questions:
I thought the IPOD kit from Suncoast contained the latest cable that charges the latest generation of IPODs. If not, when will that be available?
Do you have to shut off the IPOD everytime you shut off the car or will the IPOD shut off once you remove the key as there isn't any power going to the IPOD.

that kit is OEM kit which charges the same ipods as stated in car manual (no iphones). all previous models charge fine. i leave my ipod there for weeks and it doesnt drain battery. i have reverse engeneered oem cables (on renntech.org) but too bored to make charging cables for new ipods
You can use an adaptor, such as the Scosche Passport, to charge newer iPods/iPhones with the existing cable. I have several customers doing that. At some point, I would think the Porsche part will be updated.
And just to update from an earlier post...the dealer finally code the enabling code, and my friend's Cayenne with PCM3 is working fine with the iPod/multimedia kit. He is using one of these Passports for his wife's 3G iPhone.

The iPod should power down with the vehicle. Not sure on the Porsche system, but many iPod adapters allow for charging to continue for a little bit (20min on most) aftre the ignition has been turned off - this is to prevent damage from short-cycle-charging of the iPod's battery.
The EQ curves might be nice - how are you accessing them?
Thanks.
I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear: I didn't mean to imply that "all" iPod menu options were available on the PCM screen. EQ settings are not available.
What I was trying to say is that versus my Diesel Jetta which I use for most of my driving (commuting) you have access to all playlists, artists, albums and songs individually whereas on my Jetta I only get a choice of 6 playlists with no text......so no way to know what I'm choosing unless I have the playlists printed out........a royal PITA and a poorly designed interface.
Of course, since I've already traded my '09 C2 PDK car for an '07 C2S with manual transmission this ended up being a complete waste of money anyway!

New OEM cable part number:
997 612 471 02
Costs around $30

The iPod charging scheme change took a lot of the iPod adapter manufacturers by surprise. They have been scrambling to introduce updated charging/connection cables, etc., since the change was made. Also, there is a need for an Apple specific authentication chip to get rid of the "Not an authorized accessory" message. One of the first ones with a solution was Dension, but the others are catching up.
Hopefully Porsche will make an updated cable available, too, for this PCM3 solution. In the meantime, the Passport (and there are others out there now, too, I believe) is an option.
