Removing shift knob - anyone done this?
Removing shift **** - anyone done this?
I'm replacing the shifter boot and have followed directions. Says to unsnap the boot -- done.
Turn 90 degrees -- done.
But the **** won't lift out. Didn't want to force the plastic sleeve to turn any further than the stop (counter-clockwise).
Any ideas? Thanks.

Yeah, this is what you do in Bimmers too... you pull really really hard. Just dont put your face over the ****. I have heard a lot of people hit themselves in the face when they do this.

Thanks Stacy, on the clockwise turn when it stops, should I force it to turn further? Trying to avoid stripping it out even though it's going to get replaced. Was thinking maybe it needs to "click" to complete the turn, but seems finished.
Saw your reply Jason and appreciate the info. Never replaced this in my Bimmer.

Like posted above watch your head when it pops,do not ask how I know
!
You just have to twist the collar at the base of the shift **** where it meets the boot 90 degrees, I don't think it clicks, but after that you pull up as hard as you possibly can. As a note, there's no progressive sliding of the **** on the shifter, it'll just break loose randomly and come off. I hit myself in the chin, so stay clear hahahahaha
WOW! Got it off. Cannot beleive how much force it takes to remove. Got up in between the seats, opened the sunroof and couldn't get it. Finally took a pair of vice grips and clamped below the plastic and leveraged it off with some needle nose plyers. Somebody can get hurt if they hit themselves in the face LOL. Thanks guys, wasn't sure how much force to use and didn't want to break anything besides my ego
