If one needs practicality, he should buy a second car (Golf GTI, or other hot hatch...) instead of trading 911 for M3.

In addition to what others said (driving feel...) a major setback with M3 is that you have to explain to people what you are driving: "...you know it's an BMW 3 series coupe, only with bigger engine and bigger wheels and... it's a great car, honestly!".

With 911, you don't have to explain.

I don't think I would consider trading my 911 for an e90/92 M3....not quite enough seat time in one to feel like I could make that call..... but having a 997.2 as a stable mate for my E46 M3 makes for a nice complimentary duo.

Add in the '09 Jetta TDI I bought last weekend and I have my perfect trio.

Yes....a Jetta....I got 45 mpg to and from work all week last week. That's going to really be nice when gas is back at $4+/gallon.

Very scientific, I love how the M3 gets under your skin.

I bought an M3 instead of a 997S, never looking back.

Some of you 997 guys act like you are driving an F430. Wonder how many of them would trade for a 911.

Your on a Porsche Forum...what do you expect. If I posted the same thing on M3post thing would be different. However, I traded my 08 DCT M3 for my 997S. The two experiences are very different from behind the wheel... but it is subjective...

Just because it is predominantly a Porsche forum, does not mean it needs to be a Porsche cult. People are still capable of logical reasoning, despite the badge on their car, aren't they?

Yes, it is subjective.

Its not a case for logic. Owners bought their 100K 911's because they felt it was the best sports car they could buy for the money. The question was simple, would you trade your 911 in for a M3. Of course most owners, if not all, are going to say no on a Porsche forum. We all could have bought M3's and chose not to for a reason.

First of all, you did not pay 100k for your 997. The majority of Carrera and Carrera S owners here did not either. Secondly, if M3 owners wanted a 997, they would have one. I choose not to buy a 997 for a reason.

Sounds pretty logical to me.
