How Useful is Carfax for a CPO Car?
Got curious about Carfax after reading another thread. A car has a clean Carfax report but the auction report says frame damage. Yikes!
Which brings up the question: How useful is Carfax if it leaves stuff like this out? Or do people rely on an independent inspection and ignore Carfax altogether?
More importantly, if a car is CPO'd, do they check and report on things like body and/or frame damage? Or am I back to paying for an independent inspection?
Thanks in advance, everyone.

One caveat though. I traded my M3 at a local Porsche dealer. They said that it had been repainted on right side at Port. Yet they sold it with a Carfax certification that it never had any paint work or damage. If the dealer does not want to see it, I think the owner will have a surprise several years down the road when he/she tries to sell it. I admit it was pretty cool seeing the carfax info on all my service appointments. Many were missing, but a lot were accurate! I am glad that carfax exists, but I wonder if anyone here has experience of what to do if the scenario I explained above would be caught by new owner.....
