Ceramic Brakes
Ceramic Brakes
Read an article last night by a test driver that these are only good on a real track where you keep them hot; in fact a negative on street cars because they are "grabbier" and inconsistent, and add nothing to resale value. Your thoughts?
Well I'm not sure about the street performance, but there are times I wish I had PCCBs SO I WOULDN'T HAVE TO CLEAN OFF ALL THE BRAKE DUST EVERY OTHER FREAKING DAY. (The ceramics barely make any dust - or so I'm told). But twelve grand buys a lot of boxes of shop rags...
I have heard that they are the best when hot, and when cold they take more distance to brake then the cast iron rotors. As well they don't fade over long periods of time, which are likely only to occurr on a track.
Another advantage is a lower unsprung weight, which means slightly quicker.

PCCBs are outstanding - no dust, they look cool and they work well hot or cold. Some feel that initial application after getting wet is marginal - I don't notice it that much.
I used them hard enough to boil the OEM fluid at the track and that was the only negative I can think of other than they are more fragile than iron and slightly squeaky.

The original owner of my C2S ordered the car with PCCB's, but he didn't like them. Because he was a good customer the dealership swapped them out for the big brakes from the Turbo. I bought the car as a CPO and when I found out about the PCCB's I tried to get them, but the dealership said they were gone.
Anyway, on the track, the Turbo brakes are the 2nd best brakes I ever used.

Drove PCCB's at Barber and they were nice but no better at stopping than my S brakes. The whole idea behind PCCB is less unsprung weight.
Have you priced out what the rotor's cost to replace? Look into it especially if you track as PCCB's do not last all that long. You are looking at around $10,000 plus just for the front rotors!

I've had three cars . One had PCCB's. In term of resale it was actually a partial negative because the used shopper feared the cost of maintaining them. They were brake dust free but one still had to clean the wheels so it merely came down to splitting hairs on cleanliness effort.
In terms of performance they were about eual to the stock Turbo brakes .In fact there are tests which pin them very close. Regarding heat --the earlier PCCB version did have some issues and my car never showed any but I didn't keep the car long enough to say (the theives loved that car as much as i did --which led to its sale) .
I recently added the Brembo brake upgrade to my car and felt that it was superior to the Porsche stock brake setups . I chose the bbk because I felt that both the stock steel Turbo brakes and the PCCB are designed for a stock Turbo which has 480 Hp . With the EVT700 bringing by car up another 200Hp it was my thought that a brake system with better stopping power and less fade was needed.

I have them and would not have anything else. Second generation don't seem to have any negatives except for cost.
What many people don't realize is that the drop in un-sprung weight make the car ride and handle better. It also improves acceleration due to less mass to rotate.
Are they worth it??? That depends on how you feel about 8.5K.
