997 C4S Brakes

Thought I would share this pearl of wisdom in case any 997 4S owners are doubting their brakes. I was undergoing regrets for not getting PCCBs. I was finding that after an hour of hard driving through twisties that there was a shudder when braking from high speed. The brakes also felt less effective. Not the case. The "Big Reds" are well endowed and it's the tyres. This is not a revelation but obvious observation that it is the tyres overheating. I also noticed that the rear end was starting to swing more. I'm still learning the ways of the 911. I have Bridgestone Potenzas, they don't seem to take hot tropical roads, hard braking and high speeds for any extended periods. The Porsche tech told me that it was probably the ABS kicking in ever so quickly when the rubber start too get too sticky. Maybe somebody can suggest a suitable tyre (for road use) that may be more suitable under very hot conditions. I was considering tyres like fitted on GT3 RS with semi-slick pattern.

I have used the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups for the track. They can get greasy as well when they warm up. Perhaps the Toyo 888 would be a good fit.

Michelin Ps2 . I also changed the brakes . The big reds are great and should hold up very well but I would choose the Brembo over ceramic any day . It's not that I dislike ceramics --I did have them on one of my cars . I simply feel the big Brembos are really that good. Here's mine.

Thanks for the reply. I continue with a mix of questions and comments in anticipation of further questions. Are you referring to track tyres? I believe the Pilot Cups are like those fitted to the GT3RS so insurance shouldn't be an issue? I am willing to use Pilot Cups but I feel semi-track tyres may not have durability. My Potenzas RE050A are road tyres but were toast by 3,000 to 4,000 kms, hopefully because they not the right tyre and were overheating. I am after something for the road but must not get greasy when hot. I am not planning to go out when it's wet and will certainly slow down to a crawl with the onset of rain. PS2 are road tyres but I don't think these will be hardcore enough. I just don't want a repeat experience like the Potenzas, where I was getting oversteer after 30 minutes. I have read in a tyre review that TOYO 888 are great but will wear quick. Are these pure track tyres, autocross or for the road? Can somebody set me straight?

19" Michelin Pilot Sport Cups are NOT real cups by the way. They are the same rubber as Pilot Sport 2 (PS2).

R888 can be driven on the street. They are a softer compound and will not last as long plus they like more camber than the stock setting.

Next time you go on a spirited drive drop the air pressure down so that when the tires are hot they are around 37-38psi. You car will stick better.
