997 Carrera S Cab Exhaust

I am looking into picking up a 997 Carrera S cabriolet. What exhaust do you recommend for the car? I like the Fabspeed and AWE. Any other good recommendations? I do not mind the sound to be loud, just not over the top bypass pipe loud. Thanks.

Are you planning on only upgrading muffler sections, or headers and cats as well? About 50% of any additional sound will come from free flowing cats. Upgrading the mufflers alone will definitely give you a a little more grunt, without being over the top. Both Fabspeed and AWE make a great product.

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions, or need some good pricing.

I rode in Babymd's cab (top down) with the Tubi /F77 and it sounded awesome . It's just right to hold a conversation with ease and just enough growl to let you know it's a sport exhaust . I really liked it.

I appreciate the feedback. What exhaust offers the most exotic sound if such, similar to a F430?

Well the F430 is known to roar with Tubi but truing to get a Porsche to sound like a Ferrari is like trying to made a cat behave like dog. In short --different creatures .

But here's the F77 Tubi.

I had Fabspeed Max Flow mufflers on my 2006 Carrera S Cab and they sounded perfect. Fabpseed mufflers are very well built.

Depends what you want from your exhaust.

If it's just sound then get yourself some mufflers (Tubi, AH) that are designed to work with the standard cats and the faily large amount of silencing of the exhaust they do (as well as cleaning it up). Changing to equal-length tubular headers wil also give you a crisper sound. Headers and mufflers will give you +10-15BHP (crank) if you're lucky on a 'S'

If you want some extra power, look at a full system (headers, cats, mufflers). There are loads to choose from: AWE, Fabspeed, Cargraphic, FVD to name but a few. The free-flow (usually 200-cell) cats are what liberates extra power from these engines but they also make things a lot louder. The mufflers integrated into the full systems above are all designed to work with the louder, free-flowing cats and give excellent results. A really good exhaust will give +25-30BHP (crank) on an 'S'. I have the full AWE and the difference in sound and performance isn't subtle.

Unless you're looking for something REALLY LOUD, don't mix free-flow cats with mufflers designed to work with the standard cats. For a lot of people this can be insanely, even offensively, loud (but there are those that LOVE this cominbation)!

Lastly, if you change the full system, a CUSTOM remap will tie it all together. This will subtly alter the engine's timing and fuelling to work with the modified hardware. Whilst the mods will work (to a point) without such a remap, they will work better if the settings are optimised for the hardware. As for 'generic' remaps? Well truthfully, it's a case of 'Maybe they will, Maybe they won't'. Unless the mapping is designed to work with the hardware combination you're running then it's hit and miss if it will improve things or take them even further away from ideal.

I appreciate everyone's input, I am just looking to add mufflers. Not going the headers, cats, etc.. route. Just want a very throaty sound, had the Eisenmann Race on my M6 and Capristo on my 360 and loved it. Looking for something similar, thought of going straight bypass pipes, don't know how loud that will be for a cab everyday.

If you're going mufflers only, Tubis are sensational. Stock quiet at cruise, absolutely scream at WOT (even with the standard cats) - awesome! I had this combination on my car a loved it.

Edit - I may even still have the Tubis (I can't remember if I sold them or not). I'll check with my local Porsche independent - they'll be there if I do still have them. Let me know if you'd be interested in them. There were also a pair of Fabspeed headers that were on the car with the Tubis too.

Yes, that was a fun day! We had no intentions of filming the car. We just planned on stopping by Champion to say hi to Ben and the crew (at the time). Ben says "hey check out this awesome 911 we just finished building" and pulls the F77 out of the garage. So I say...."hmmm, you know, I have my video equipment with me....wanna do it?" We filmed for about 30 minutes....and voila.

Now that my trip down memory lane is done, back on topic. One thing I can say about the Tubi system is that it most definitely has a more unique tone then other systems I've heard. It's also one of best when it comes to integrating the mufflers into a stock system. The fit, finish, and design is truly best in class. Very few (if any) Tubi owners are ever disappointed with their decision.

And of course, as your local friendly Tubi dealer, we'd be happy to price out a system for you if you're interested.
