from the above, each company thinks they have the answer and the other guy is in design error.

there is just one way to find out. try both cat sets on the same car, same day, same dyno.

i am willing to test both and repoprt the findings if the companies are willing. testing will be done at Quality Motorsports using a dynojet 248c.

uhh, no dyno wars!

one probably adds 4 HP and the other 4.1 HP. I wouldn't sweat it, purchase the one that you think looks the shiniest and Im sure it will be great!

you want to buy a performance mod that you cant quantify? how else can one answer the question of which is better? these are high dollar items that need and deserve to be quantified imho

I will say this..the only mod I have done on my car that added any power that I felt was the cats. I easily believe a 12rwhp gain and probably more in the midrange. The 12rwhp gain is probably peak.

I'll second this one. The addition of an AWE system makes these cars kick noticeably harder through the mid range (from 3500-5200rpm) and again above 6000 rpm. This you simply don't get with the standard exhaust. Trust me, the differences aren't subtle!

You wouldn't get anything like a noticeable difference from a small 4BHP increase (or even 12BHP). Whilst AWE claims +28 to +39BHP for their system, the only independent dynos I've seen got +23 wheel BHP for a full system that equates to around +27BHP crank. I therefore feel that their lowest claim could well be achievable and this is certainly supported by the feel of the car once modified.

As for X/over pipes, I've never used the Fabspeed cats but other respected tuners also make quite bold claims for this type of solution, Cargraphic being the most notable. There certainly seem to be 2 opposing points of view! I also believe that a x/over pipe changes the exhaust characteristics so much that a remap would be required for it to work properly (that's what Cargraphic does). Then it might prove very effective but we simply don't have enough data yet.

911nojoke, you said 'uhh, no dyno wars!' I know what you mean! Everyone will just criticise the testing methodology and find a thousand reasons why the dyno tests really should have found in favour of their product.

However if we, as the potential buyers of these systems, want at least some sort of guide as to what really works, there isn't a viable alternative to a dyno shoot-out. A properly-conducted test of both systems on the same car on the same day by someone experienced in tuning 997s would be the closest we could get to a meaningful answer.

Hey I agree with you in theory, it just reminded me of the plenum controversy from a while ago. Even if you tested the same car on the same day, there are so many variables that each side would dispute the results ad nauseum

fyi i have a full awe system on my car and love the sound-it came with my car so unfortunately can't offer a before/after opinion...

ak996TT is infamous around these parts

Hey All,

I have Fabspeed Maxflow mufflers, 200 Cell Race CATs, Headers, Cold Air intake and also BMC Filter. They are the guy that who help me to convert my 997S into the 997 GT3 custom tailpipe exhaust conversion with 4' tips.

The quality and the customer support ( designed, custom manufactured, installed, test fitted, dyno tested)is top notch in my experience. They also dynoed my car with all the Mods. The horsepower is noticeable (30hp+)...from the dyno sheet.

Do a search on the vendor forum ( Fabspeed 997S GT3 conversion tailpipe...), they do have a thread about it, and you can see my car is being dyno,,and you can hear the sound of my exhaust...is like music to my ear..sound just like a cup car in a way..it sound louder and more aggressive than the stock GT3...

I never have CEL.

Here is the thread from ak996tt's car. As you can see we show the differences between the over/under cats and the x-pipe sport cats
