Quick one - Fabspeed exhaust models
mozhacker -- there are several and I agree that the Fabspeed does sound good . On my last car I heard a few and selected one . This was what I chose --the Tubi/F77

Sorry for the late response.
I do not believe that Fabspeed made 2 different versions for the 997. You'll be happy with them, not too loud, but definitely a nice improvement in sound. Pair them with an EVOMS cold air kit and it'll scream at WOT at around 5,500 rpm's.

Thanks Cattman. I put the driver side muffler on and then ran in to a stripped bolt problem (on the car) on the passenger side. So I had to take it to my local mechanic for some first aid. He's not going to get to it until Monday.
Quite odd to limp down my hill and over to him on two different mufflers. But perfect for an 'a/b' test
Driver side really sounded great. As you describe. Great sound but not too loud. Can't wait to have two!
Thanks.

Fabspeed redux
I finally completed the transplant of my Fabspeed mufflers. Many thanks for their (two) prior owners for the background information and excellent condition of the parts. Truth is, they are incredibly well built. It's almost a shame that they get covered up by bodywork.
The sound is approximately perfect for me. Relatively quiet, deep and throaty at low engine revs and throttle settings. Breathy and open on acceleration and open throttle. It's almost like Porsche meets a late sixties Ferrari. Unbelievably good.
Some have cited concern of potential droning and excessive db's. As you could tell from a prior post, I'm pretty sensitive to excessive noise and a droning sound would imply a substandard design. Also not appealing. Nothing could be further from the truth. The noise levels are reasonable, no droning, and the sound quality is excellent. All subjective of course. But just sayin'.
I should add that I have a Cab. Top up or down these qualities persist. There may be a difference in resonance with a sealed metal container that is the coupe.
Thanks again,
Verde

Verde,
Glad you like them! I'm pleased, too, that they've found a happy 3rd owner, lol! They are certainly well made. Before I sold them to Lakerholic I polished them with some EagleOne metal polish, and it brought back the "mirror finish". Not that you can really see them, but since you seem to admire their look, I thought I'd let you know.
Add an EVOMS cold air kit to these mufflers and you'll get a little more noise, especially at wide-open throttle over 5,500 RPM's, where it will sound like a scream.
After awhile with these, if you're at all like me, you may want even MORE sound, in which case, AfterHours is the next logical step. I'm running them, and they're ferocious! Took a bit of time to get used to (at first, I thought, oh no!, what have I done!) But after a week I was loving them. Real head-turning sound.

Thanks Cattman. I had heard from Lakerholic that you polished them up before sending them to him. They had much of that quality retained when I received them. Compared with a pair that I happened to have run across yesterday on eBay, these were and are beautiful.
I claim I'm going to slow down on the mods for a while and enjoy the car as a whole piece. Not good for the elected administrations economic programs, but much better on the home front. I drove it some yesterday and, as always but even more so, it put a huge smile on my face.
Not sure if I'll get bored with the sound. More is generally better, but I like being able to slip beneath the radar when I choose too.
Thanks again,
Verde

You're spot on. I called up Fabspeed and they informed me that there is really only one model/db level. They DO, via special order, build quieter mufflers, but it is very rare. The fellow I spoke with (incredibly helpful, patient and informative) said he recalls them building three instances of the quiet version - one going to Alex.
So, we'll see how it goes. I've got one stripped nut on the exhaust clamp so I'm going to get a little help to cut it off before I put new clamps on when I swap the mufflers.
Thanks for everyones help.

Thank you Joey. And as I said in an earlier post, the person I spoke with couldn't have been more helpful or cordial. A perfect customer experience. I only wish I could recall his name. I do recall that I mentioned that he sounded like the fellow in your videos'. He said it was the 8th time this week that someone had said that but it wasn't him. Quite funny.
Verde I'm glad that the system worked out for you and the sound is on par with your standards. If you have any questions you need answered or looking for more power

It was me who you were speaking with on the phone...except everybody thinks that I am Joe Fab from the videos and again I want to thank you for the compliments--> just doing my job.
When you get in the mood again remember your buddies at Fabspeed; their headers and cats and a cold air system (sorry Joey, but I went with evoms) and a flash will really excite you. My Fabspeed system is now 4 months old and it gets better every day! Also, as you said, the customer service could not be better (even if they STILL owe me my two free T-shirts - take note, Joey). To be fair, AWE was equally polite, helpful, and knowledgeable on the phone, their system sounds great (to me), and the owners I know who went with them are all happy.
I'm not used to PR people being subject matter experts!
Just doing your job quite well.
Thanks again,
Rich

Fabspeed, AWE and JetHot re-redux
My 'mood' will be a function of maintaining marital bliss. But when the coast is clear (kidding dearrrr!!), an intake is next up.
Now, re the t-shirts. I didn't get one! OTOH, I bought the exhaust pre-owned. So should I get a used tee?
Separately, I'm on the record (on this site) noting the outstanding service that the folks at AWE have provided. I know this is getting to sound like a paid political announcement, but each/both represent my largest aftermarket purchases for my 997S and they've been perfect vendors.
I would recommend both without reservation. I'm a believer in brand loyalty and customer-for-life type of relationships and both these folks merit that level of support. I should add that I'm in no way associated - personally or financially - with these folks. And enough is enough. I'll stop now.
Finally, my one regret in all of this is to not have considered getting the mufflers JetHot (or equivalent) coated prior to the install. From everything I read, hear and know, it's a great way of containing and expelling heat, mitigating 'heat soak'. And the tight/limited ventilation of the muffler/exhaust section of the car would seem to make them ideal candidates for the treatment. If I ever have any need or opportunity to temporarily remove them, I might still just do it. Any comments?
