Thoughts on the 2010 Gt3 and why it remained pure
yrralis, I do not buy this "pure" BS that the 2010 is the last "pure" Porsche. Many will argue and would win a debate that the last so called "pure" Porsche went out a long time ago.
By "pure" do you mean slower? Really think about it...."pure" means nothing really....todays cars are faster that yesterdays cars by a long shot. They last longer, have fewer issues, safer, better emissions, use less fuel and are faster. Put Walter Rohl in a so called "pure" Porsche street car and todays 997.2S since you are refering to this car as not being pure without actually naming it and even the master will be faster around the ring with the latest and greatest.

I feel its most recent 911 that isn't going soft. It the old school car that can compete at the current level . It's like Rocky winning a heavyweight belt in old age.
Can't you applaud this car for what it is ? To me that's what it makes it "pure" .
I want one, and I would use it the way it was intended!
PDK is heavier, plus, in the GT3 you bet it would get paddles, requiring some more time plus creating controversy with the initial button offering (a mistake).
DI on the GT3 would most likely come with completely new architecture, as in ditching the GT1 block. This would prove far too controversial right now. Not to mention DI gets challenging over certain rev ranges. It was not practical in that sense and the added cost/time of engineering.
The GT3 is not the last pure Porsche. The last pure Porsche is the last sports car Porsche produces.
Additionally, this is in the wrong section.

It's how one defines "pure" . There is no right or wrong with this because any debate argument could be won on the definition .

others will argue that the 911 SC is the pure 911, while others will say it is the 73 RS.
The reality is pure is a relevant to the persons subject opinion.
Nice car BTW.

I didn't say "older is better ".Whether Porsche may have indirectly implied it by releasing a modern car with traditional components is up to ones interpretation. I am all in favor of technology . The car itself is an advancement above the horse and carriage . But I question whether DFI and PDK really are all that and a bag of chips .. after all -- they are omitted in the leader of the track .
But I digress ..
I went to the dealership and have some 411 info.
I'm guessing you are still reading too . Read on ...
Lucky for my wallet --my sales contact had the day off . I even saw a Sportec display car --off topic but nice.
EVERY technician I spoke with did the same cartwheel over the Gt3 that I did . When I told them that my dilema was that I had no where to park it they offered their home .
In short --they LOVE the car too .
We are guessing the clutch will be softer than my current stage 3 Gt2 conversion .
We are guessing that the suspension will be tight comparable in comfort to my current damptronic setup .
Talked about the OEM option which is offered --the lift . For that front lip .
Talked about its street potential as well as its track strength.
This is one seriously bad a$$ed car !!!!! Plus it's not even priced so high to scream .
As for allocation -I don't know yet .
Am I going to buy it ? I don't know yet.
Will I sell my Turbo ? Never !!!
That's my dilema -- which of the other two cars go bye bye or do I have two weekend toys which seems expensive and impractical .
I will think more . But at one time I considered the 997.2S as the future second Porsche . No more . This Gt3 has charmed me .

Larry, didn't you say the other day that you would not keep a car that long as you will get bored of it! I would imagine that your turbo is an awesome beast, but I suspect that you will want a new P Car one day.
If you do get a new GT3 and you want to park it at my house, I will drive it for you

Bingo. As I recall, adding DFI would leave a lot of racers in the lurch. I have no reason to think it wouldn't be a superior technology. The fundamentals are irrefutable, much as many keep trying.
Re PDK, I'm sure it will come in due time. It's race derived technology, appears in other supercars, and is the standard in F1. Other than that, it's a complete loser.
That said, I would love to own a new GT3. It seems to be the absolute best 911 ever. But not due to the absence of new technology.
Finally, I fail to understand why people compare GT3's and TT's (costing $125K and up) to M-series and GT-R's at 1/2 to 2/3 the price. It would be damn sad if the Porsche wasn't hotter.

If Autoweek and Automobile Mag are correct, the 2010 GT3 engine/tranny combo are for the homogulation requirements of the racing circuits, plus there would have been no more bang for the buck putting a DFI in this car. As far as the efficacy of PDK, Porsche was pretty damn successful running it in the 956 and 962 25 years ago, so it isn't just a new untested toy as some on other threads like to postulate.

Keeping a car forever does not mean it can't go through a process of semi retirement and eventually full retirement where its not driven .Just cherished for the memory.
I don't keep my Porsches usually beyond two years . This Turbo is the exception to any car I have ever owned . The 993 Turbo would have been "the one" but being younger and less aware I sold it and to this day miss it .
I said I would never drive a car 100K miles --that I would be "bored to tears ".It would ruin the experience for me.

Just thought I would give you a hard time, as I haven't done that in at least one or two posts
You will find information on how to use Vbulletins ignore feature. Surprised you were not able to figure this out on your own.
