changing mufflers (or removing them) is exactly how you make the car 'sound' differently? Though I am open to your alternative exhaust modifications that involve changing the sound without changing/modifying any parts.

do you think porsche offers a sport exhaust option because everyone likes the stock sound? or do you think vendors make aftermarket exhaust because everyone is already king of the road with a stock exhaust?

to each his own, to suggest his bypass pipes are a waste because he isn't racing his car or because he doesn't have a custom software tune is shortsighted at best. It's just a muffler, it's not some magical piece of go-fast bit.

Hi Eleganzo,

Muffler bypasses really bring out the roar of the Porsche Flat 6. Unfortunately for day to day use it is a bit loud. Cargraphic has some great exhaust options with different sound levels for your 997.

The Cargraphic TÜV SOUND VERSION EXHAUST (pn#CARP97ETR) has a really mellow tone that is great if you are not trying to attract any unwanted attention. A sound clip of the exhaust can be heard here:
Cargraphic TÜV SOUND VERSION EXHAUST

If want something with a sportier sound check out the Cargraphic SUPER SOUND EXPORT VERSION EXHAUST (pn#CARP97ETS). The Super Sound is the most popular version for the 997. The exhaust tone is phenomenal without being overly aggressive. A sound clip of the exhaust can be heard here:

If you have any further questions feel free to shoot me a pm or give me a call at 714-545-1046.

Thanks

To each his own, that`s for sure.

But to be exactly specific - a bypass tube on any street car is exactly 'a waste'. And it is not a 'different sort of muffler', it is a bypass.

a waste of what?

He shaved off weight and he made the car louder which is what he wanted (too loud it seems hence the OP). Losing weight off the rear end was actually a nice bonus. I'm curious what exactly you think he has wasted with the bypass pipes?

I dont like harley riders. I got the finger from one trying to race him. Actually, I wasnt even trying to race. I just accelerated from a stop light very quickly up to the speed limit and got the finger as he caught up and passed me...A-hole

Wow. Quite a debate got developed over this topic.

I just wanted to follow-up and say that I just installed one of the mufflers back. Now I have one muffler bypass and one stock muffler. This is the alternative I was looking for. The exhaust note is more aggressive while not being too loud and I still saved about 25 pounds on weight by removing the muffler.

I think I am going to stick with this set-up.

By-pass pipes

If you had read other post regarding by-pass pipes, you would have not been surprised that the sound is very loud. Most people say that the bypass pipe is too loud for normal driving and want to sell it. Oh well, enjoy.

Nice. That is a unique idea. Im glad its working out for you noise level wise. Im curious to see if it will set a check engine light or make the engine run different after a while once it adjusts to the difference in backpressure from the two banks. Keep us updated.

OK!OK!OK! I thinking I'm agreeing with you here as that sounded great.
But, I'm also thinking that great sound might get you some unwanted attention from the boys in blue. I'm also thinking it might get old in hurry for everyday off track driving.
Would love to hear how you feel about them once you've installed and lived with them awhile. Did sound great though. Sounded very exotic to my ear.

If anyone wants to try the fabspeed muffler bypass pipes out, I have a set with 500 miles on them that I would let go for cheap... like $100 shipped and I pay paypal fee. You could easily sell them at that price if you end up not liking them. Just thought I'd throw that out there as it is pretty impossible to tell what it will really sound like from the youtube vids.

I'm speechless.
Oh wait, that's not entirely true:

Friend, try a unicycle. Not only would this remove the question of which side gets a muffler and which doesn't, I think it might also better match your red honking nose than a Porsche does.

My apologies if you were not kidding, as I had assumed you were.
