Low beam auto switch/sensor?

I asked this question a bit ago but nobody answered. As I drive in big dig tunnels any other day it sort of starting to annoy me - it would be great if car was smart enough to light up on its own.

I saw packages available for other cars - essentially all required is a photo-diode sensor and relay. I am very surprised that nothing is there for 911 cars. It is not even complicated to DIY, it is just will be probably not very convenient to fit totally custom assembly under the hood.

So does it really not exist or is it just me who cannot find proper kit for this? If it really is not there then I will probably try to hack into connections from stock light switch and will put some override schematics over it. Should not be that difficult to adapt similar kit from other brands.

Too bad, I assume there are no electricians here at all... I found original sun sensor on wiring diagrams but it does not seem if it may help much, it just gets into B8 input on climatronic CU and that`s all. Seems that sensor also has 2 unused outputs, i wonder what that could be for...

... - those were alarm light inputs, not outputs.

I asked my dealer. They said the sensor is there similar to the Cayenne (sp?) but when they substituted the switch it didn't work. The bit may be available to be flipped in the f/w for the car but it doesn't show in their set-up options so who knows...I agree, it would seem that this would be standard or at least a set-up option in today's world.

I ordered set of relays from ebay so as soon as I receive em and find where does wiring from sensor goes - will write up what will be done.
It should be very easy thing, really, only additional part required may be an amplifier with trigger logic for sensor output.

I am pretty sure 997 should have its own somewhere as well but it may be close to impossible to find. I will try to scan CU for air conditioning as according to wiring diagram it is the only consumer of sun sensor input.

There is actually one more box on diagram where wiring goes but it has non-comprehensible abbreviation 'S-M', whatever that means and there is no location for it shown on a map. So it is probably useless.

As of dealer, I would not expect much from them in any area that is not related to stock items...

Most car I have seen there are two parts. The light switch itself needs an automatic mode and you need a light sensor. It could be done pretty easliy with the part you mentioned. Just need to make sure lights only get power with ingition on and you would want to make sure the light are not already on. A few latching relays would take care of that. Good luck. I look forward to your write up.
You would also want to add some type of time delay for turn on and turn off.

That delay part is usually done by amplifier which essentially should pick up low level signal from a sensor.
Well, I do see some chinese kits on Ebay for $112 but trick here is to measure what sort of output does stock sun sensor generate and if it is even possible to get to it.

I looked up wiring diagrams but could not trace where exactly wire from sun sensor goes in a first place. It has to go somewhere... Will look up later. I assume it probably generates out something in 2-4 volt area, but, who knows.
