Mixing synthetic oil

997.2S calls for 0w40 - can I add a quart of 5W30 as the oil level is low or does all oil in the car have to be the same viscosity even if it's all synthetic.

All Mobil One.

I don't know if the new 997 motor has a different oil capacity than the previous model (ie. 10 quarts). If it's the same or close I expect that one quart out of 10 shouldn't present any problem.

My thoughts exactly and I'm doing an oil change in 1 month anyway so all of it is coming out. Capacity is 9 quarts. So 1/9 would be a different viscosity.

just go and buy a quart of the 0w-40. its the only oil that is porsche approved. why take a chance for only 10 bucks. most likely nothing will happen but to me its just not worth it.

I'd keep it at 0w-40 or 5w-40. You can find 0w-40 at the auto parts store.

the last thing you want is some rms leak or warranty issue. just stick with 0-40. easily found in auto stores.
