I think you are trolling.
4 Posts and 3 of them are attacking other members?... Not sure what you've read into this thread but it's simply a discussion of one car vs. another. Ed certainly has more than enough seat time to make an educated contribution to the debate. You, however, seem to just be just trying to stir things up. If that's the case you'll need to find a different forum - We're all friends here on the 6. Try finding a different part of the forum you are interested in and making some useful contributions rather than blasting other members right out of the gate.

Porsche quality is without a doubt better than bmw quality. The Pcars just feel more solidly build all around.

Claudia Schiffer?

At $100,000 I'd rather have Claudia Schiffer without a hangnail.

What do you think of your Cayman S vs. your old 996? Obviously the quality of materials has gone up in the 2005+ P-cars but would you agree that the buttons and controls have a more textile and 'chunky' quality feel to them as well? I've been disappointed at how quickly the faux aluminum or any other painted pieces show age but overall I think fit and finish are second to none on the newer cars.

My only complaint so far with any of the newest members of the BMW family is how incredibly quick the i-drive controls get loose. Straight from the factory its got good positive feedback allowing you to scroll through the menus fairly easy (as easy as controling i-drive can be...) but after about 6 months or so the entire wheel begins to 'click' easier and easier until it almost spins freely. I've seen a few other complain of this and replacement seems to be the only answer. Splitting hairs I know, but I agree with Seligson... You have a right to expect a lot when writing that sort of check.

I think that has more to do with how screwed up the BMW "iDrive" system is rather then the quality of the ****.

I have a 2008 BMW 535 and a 2008 Porsche 911S. The paint that came on the BMW is, without a doubt, the owrst I have ever seen on any new car I ordered. The 535 is Platinum Gray and has severe orange peel, is blotchy on the hood and thye did not even bother to finish the job in places they thought I would not notice ( in the trunk, etc. The car runs great though! No fuel pump problems at 30,000 miles. My 911 has a great paint job and I hope to keep it that way ( weekend driver). I find the contols on both cars to be acceptable. At least the Porsche doesn't have i-drive! In geneal, modern paints resist the environment much better ( chemicals, acid rain, etc.) but ar a bit softer and somewhat more vulnerable to physical damage.

Thanks Jeremy. As I said, I love driving the car but I just don't think the fit/finish of the car feel as solid as BMWs.
My other car right now is an '09 528i sport manual with a bunch of crazy but awesome options (undoubtedly was ordered by someone who lost his job) such as Nasca leather, ventilated seats, active steering, special color (Neptune Blue), Premium sound, Nav,etc. A $63,000 528i that I bought under invoice because they couldn't unload it. Anyway, I love driving that car. BMW's i6s are so silky smooth that I actually prefer it to their twin turbos. The fit and finish on this car is impeccable, and it's extremely quiet even with the 19" run-flats. A stark contrast to the ride and feel of the 911 cab, both of which feel awesome, but the feel of the controls on the BMW is much superior the P.

VMM is infamous around these parts
Haven't noticed a whole lot of issues yet. I do baby my cars and try to park them in the garage whenver possible. My e46M3 (05) has 26000 miles on it and still looks new except for scattered rock chips. Interior is near perfect. I have it detailed about 3 times a year. Fit and finish is very similar for both cars. e46 M3 is one of the last unbangled cars. I actually was parking the car at work and someone randomly out of the blue came up to me and gushed about how wonderful the e46 M3 was.... and his quote was..."you've got the last of the cars untouched by bangle!" Obviously Bangle was already at BMW by around 2003-2004 but the midcylce refresh really had his changes on the the 3 series. The M was untouched except for some LED tail lights. So far so good. I think the leather in the M3 is nicer though my 911 has the base leather interior. Seats are comfy. Love the carbon fiber interior though already had the dash/front vent piece replaced under warranty. I do have a feeling that the 911s will be a bit more quirky than other cars. Sometimes you hear a strange sound here and there (more than the M3). Never get that with a Honda but were talking apples and oranges. The Porsche is amazing... I will never be without one.
