My first 911...have a few questions!!

Just bought myself an 05 911 S, I have a few newbie questions!! What is the difference between a 997.1 and 997.2?? I gather a NB is narrow body?? the "S" is a wide body?? I want to do a few additions to the car....looking to install a GT3 OEM front bumper, with a Teckart type 1 rear spoiler, carbon fibre mirror inserts and replace the existing lobster rims with the new turbo style wheels. Looking to get the best places to buy the above, could anyone suggest a few of the site distributors that offer really good products at great prices?? Finally in regards to the rims, what would be a fair selling price for mine and what would a set of the turbo wheels go for?? would you suggest the replica's being sold on E-Bay for around $600??

Thanks for the help.

The 997.2 is basically the most recent version of the 911. There are several updates including the exterior (LED tail lights, running lights, and bumpers). The 997.2 also features Porsche's new DFI (direct fuel injection) motor.

NB is "narrow body". Currently, the Carrera (C2), Carrera S (C2S), and GT3 are narrow body. The Turbo, GT2, GT3 RS, and Carrera 4 models are widebody, in that they have wider rear fenders to accomodate wider wheels. Your car is a NB.

As for the mods you have listed above, they are all quite common and easily accessible. If you need help locating or pricing any, please feel free to let me know which part you're looking for and I'll do my best to help you. We carry TechArt so the spoiler and carbon inserts would be no problem. The GT3 style bumper is also sometimes referred to as the "aero kit" bumper as it was an option from the dealer on 997's.

Hope this helps...welcome and enjoy the new car!!

For the OEM GT3 bumper, I would suggest Suncoast, they have pretty much the best prices for OEM parts.

For the Mirror Inserts you can try Vividracing, I got my Vorsteiner Mirror Insert from them. They also sell TechArt

For the wheels: If you car is an NB, I don't think the new Turbo wheels will fit your car since the Offsets are different... Plus they will set you back at least $5K! So I would suggest getting HRE for the price

BTW C2 and C2S are narrow body, and C4 and C4S are wide body... Also there are a lot of differences between 997.1 and 997.2

Ryan, thanks for the link to your website. The front GT3 bumper is exactly what I am looking for. I will try to call you tomorrow to discuss. I have a condo in St. Pete's and will be there in Oct. so I will pick it up then.

Could you please PM me your direct number, allot of 1-877 toll free numbers don't work in Canada!!

Thanks for the info. I have seen the wheels on numerous 911 S's...maybe I am calling them by the wrong name. They are like a 5 star wheel with double blades with the front face aluminum colour and the sides gun metal or even black. I really like the look of these wheels and would love to get a set!!

The GT3 front bumper is NOT the same as the AeroKit front bumper. The GT3 has the vent, the aero does not.

The wheels you are describing are the 997TT (turbo) wheels, and the two tone look is really nice- I have them on my 997S. I got mine brand new with Michelin Pilot Sport II's for about $3,500. Deals like that abound, just look around, and you can get that primo set up. Go with OEM or HRE's on wheels, not replicas.

There are many used wheels for sale on the 6speed classifieds from time to time. You can save a lot vs buying new. I would check out Champion and HRE for some other alternatives to factory wheels. Congrats on your C2S.

BTW, it may not have been clarified above, but the 997.2 is the latest model that appeared in model year 2009. It has different PCM interface, headlights, tail lights, direct injection motor, PDK in place of Tiptronic, etc. Therefore, much of the after-market equipment for 997.1 cars, such as exhaust systems, won't fit the 997.2.

+1 on the Replica's being cheap. Don't get caught in the trap of seeing something for a cheap price. Quality has it's price, and if you want to save some money buy a set of second hand wheels.

If you are asking about differences between the 997.1 and the 997.2 I'd respectfully suggest that you wait a few months and 'learn' your car before you start jumping into high priced mods.
