Bad ignition and dead battery

This morning I went to start my 997 and it was completely dead - no dash lights or anything. There also was no resistance when turning the key in the ignition and to top it off I could not pull the key out of the ignition! Called the dealer and they said I have a bad ignition but that I would be able to jump the car. I got the hood unlatched following the instruction in the owners manual. Question, when I go to jump the car to start it will I be able to if when turning the key there is no resistance in the ignition??

Thanks much.
