Hello All:

Too bad. The car is gone!!!

I waited too long with the test drive because I was so damn busy at work. Someone else, maybe even from this forum, enjoys her now.

I truely could cry my eyes out.

I did everything except buying the car: Insurance, money, family agreement, your guys approval, excellent DME, you name it I got it and it was all good but it's gone now.

Thanks for your kind help and well meant advise. The search will start over.

Sorry to hear that Bernd. Hang in there, the right one will come along. And now that you have the approval, insurance, etc. under your belt you'll be able to jump quicker when the right one comes along.

Hello All:

I woke up at ~ 4:00 a.m. and I can't sleep because I'm still thinking about it. I'm totally mixed emotions, sad about this missed opportunity and angry about my self that I did not prioritize the planned purchase accordingly. I know there will be P-cars in the future (and nice ones too) but once you set your heart... you know the story.

Just wanted to share and say thanks again to all who chimed in; most notably yrralis1, ntlgnt1, Hella-Buggin’, utkinpol, NorthVan997C2S, avmike, LagunaDallas, and others.

Please don’t feel bothered if I asked again to share your thoughts and opinions as my search for a Carrera continues.

I lost one because I wasn't "serious" about it yet, then I almost lost the one I bought to the owner of a local car dealer - buying it for his wife, I think.

You won't lose the next one!

dont worry about it... there are plenty of cars out there... check autotrader, there's a GT silver 2006 C2S in Turlock, CA. Did my research, it's a one-owner car (dentist)... for a few grand more, it's yours!

You are way over-reacting, really, it is just a car after all. Not worth loosing your sleep over it. You`ll find another one. Good opportunities come and go, just keep your radar on and you`ll find another one.

Bernd, best thing about this recession is there are opportunities a plenty as evident by all the great deals of members on this board. It takes time but things do fall into place. Last Christmas I was very close to picking up a cherry 07 SL55 (only year with paddle shift) for $58k. The dealer agreed to the price, but I was haggling over warranty when someone swooped in and offered $70k (asking) for the car. Then I found what I thought was a perfect P-car for me and hesitated as it was out of State. In the end I jumped at the one I got and possibly paid a little too much (had I known '09s would be a blue light special). But I couldn't be happier and kinda glad I didn't get the SL. Hang in there and I'm sure this board will help anyway we can.

Edit: Not kinda glad, REALLY glad I didn't get the SL

I can relate to being mad at myself as I had that happen to me twice in my search for my 997. You just end up getting really fixated on having the car. That being said, what everyone else wrote is good advice...just be patient and you will find the right car. It is just a car and there are other options out there. Good luck!

Thanks to all of you for your kind words and encouragement. I probably overreacted. I put a lot of effort into the homework I felt almost entitled to that car. I started already to hunt again and found the very nice GT silver from the dentist as someone suggested (23 K miles, ~ $ 56 K)
Also, one of my new favorite colors/combos is now also atlas grey/black interior and I found a 2008 w/ < 8 K miles at www.rizzacars.com (~ $ 62 K) and also a 2007 C2S at Park Palace in Texas (~ 11 K miles for ~ $ 60 K). The latter has PCCB, looks like well equipped with sporty flair but I'm not sure whether that is the right thing given the horrendous replacement costs if they go "kaputt". Park Palace has actually several intersting cars: 2007, 2008, and 2009 Carrera (all silver) with black sport seats. Their 2009 is on the market forever. I try to keep the costs for my first Porsche in check and will later "up-grade" if I want but I explained that before.

If you have anything good to say about the PCCB please do so. I will do my own research later.

Thanks again. I'll get back to you if I'm getting closer.

These cars and prices are a large range . I understand that theres a lot of emotions in this for you . I looked at your region . I saw the GT silver car . I also see all these cars that you are listing all over the country .

You began at 45 grand and when you start saying PCCB and 07 C2S you are going up the ladder .

The 45K to 60K price range is very hard to find a good car thse days .
Even new cars are slowly vanishing except at dealerships who were not willing to compete with price .

How far are you ready to travel ? Is a new car out of the question?

The reason I ask this is because if you buy a used car and it faces even one problem you are going to remember the other car . My feeling is that a new car erases all doubt .. but it also can strain the finance . But if an 07 is 60 K and you are already over budget and sky high is 78K for a sparkling new(full warranty) 09 really that far away?

Ouch - that's gotta hurt. But don't get into a "rebound" thing. Take a break, regroup, and then find your girl, em, I mean car.

I called about that 2007 at PP. After a little digging, and trying to run the VIN thru Carfax, the salesman told me that was a demo car. As he described it, "you know it was taken out around the cones a few times in the parking lot". I've been to the Porsche driving events and I personally do not want a car from there. The salesman kind of agreed after we talked a bit more. They do have a lot of cars at that dealership but be sure to ask about the history.

I also agree with Larry, price creep can really get you. I got attached to an 08' for $62 with great options but after some serious thought that car is gonna cost almost $70K with tax and tags. After you make the leap to $60+ you are not to far away from a brand new car- Larry's been saying that for a while - so true.

BTW, there is a 2008 C2S at a local dealership with 3.5K miles that you can get for $63K - nice options but no Sports Chrono.

I'm really trying to keep everything under $50K with tax and tags at this point. Then in a year or two when the 997 turbos are in the low to mid 70's I'll make my next move...

After reading about new 2010 turbo with 3.8L + PDK I am sold on it - 3.2 sec 0-60, 500+ horses - it is a dream car.

It would be interesting to monitor for a while how it will be selling and then in 2-3 years I may be will pick up one after it will depreciate to appropriate level in some good caring hands.
