I'll admit I do ding other vehicles on the very rare occasion. Its always when I'm in a parking garage, having paid to get in, and am looking for the elusive open space and have passed space after space that is only 3/4 available because of double-parkers. At some point I find a space that I can get in, ad the guy no my drivers door side is over the line with their car and there's no other way for me to get out. There, I no longer care what happens to their door and figure, for such a parking job, they deserve the ding. Its always when driving my VW.

Why would you assume they parked that why intentionally? What if the car next to them was over the line and they had no choice?

Well this all makes sense now. I have had many nice cars and have always parked a few spaces away when I can to keep my car from getting dinged. Not so far that it stands out. Never has anyone appeared to have gone out of there way to park next to me. I get a Porsche and park the same way. I come out of a store into a big empty parking lot and there is a big pickup truck parked as close as he could get to me! It's happened a few times since.

I also park as far away from everybody else as much as possible. There's another 997 at my work and we always park across from each other, with no other cars any where near us. I have never seen the owner of that car, not once in three years, but we see each other's cars everyday.

I would not exaggerate this problem. I drive my car everywhere and park it everywhere, even i downtown Boston - I would not say level of annoyance is higher than with my wife`s honda or my old Lexus. Some jerks do park too close, but not quite often. All summer long I was taking my kid to the lake beach in Hopkinton so I parked in beach front line in an empty spot and could see - folks do not want to park too close to 911, and in the end she was usually left with 2 last empty empty spaces in whole line around her, so somebody would have to fit there and they usually were quite careful not to ding it. May be it is MA, not sure, but most people to admire nice cars here without much hatred. Or may be I just want to believe it.

Plus I would say - if you afraid your car can be dinged - do not drive it and do not park it nowhere. Scuffs are unavoidable, especially if you live in a big city.

remove the valve cores (takes about 5 seconds per tire) and they are instantly flat. No permanent damage done, the vavle cores cost about $.39 each and if you do two, it's pretty likely that a$$wipe is calling AAA or his wife.

a$$wipe "Honey, I need you to pick me up so we can run to Napa to get valve cores and a portable compressor"
Mrs. a$$wipe "were you being an a$$wipe again?"
a$$wipe "yep"

and yes, this is my first post here

don't get me started!!! it's not just the porsche, but my M6 had a very unusual ding right below the driver's door almost to the side skirt. i couldn't figure it out until 1 day...this old, bondo-ed, falling apart, rusty toyota parked next to me and backed in...the perfect scenario and perfect height that caused my ding. This was in the hospital parking garage with cameras everywhere...I can't understand these people. When i park in designated doctor's parking, I have to avoid all of the huge 4x4 pick ups that think the sign 'compact cars only' means them!!!! I could rant on and on and on...at least at my local Publix, i can get a decent parking spot that doesn't make me sweat a ding!

Did you actually say that, judging from the way they parked, that they deserved a ding? You gotta be kidding.

x2. So you are one of the elusive sack-garglers we all have heard about. Does owning a porsche make you a narcissistic asswipe, or are narcissitic asswipes pre-disposed to owning porsches? Chicken/Egg?

I've seen the same and think that you if you go out of the way to isolate the car, some people will park next to you just to mess with you.
