I need a conversion kit for the 997. Fog lights
#16
Hi, thanks for reply, im told the control unit (997.618.512.01) has to be changed and coded so you can alter the light settings via a piwis tester. the light settings have to be changed from incandescent to led, otherwise they wont function properly as leds are lower voltage.
However in each facelift light there is a module and this senses the light for the drls. (997.631.241.00) i think in my earlier post i refered to the control unit as the module, my appologies.
I wondered if i just wired up lights and fitted the control unit , then coded it, what would happen, surely the lights would work but would you need to turn the fog light switch on for the drls or would they work via the side lights? Thats the question. would they indeed, well until somebody can tell me im stumped,
Ron may be the man if AI design in NY can sort out his gen2 conversion, only problem is im in the uk and ive drawn a blank here, so im pinning my hopes on ron.

i just finished my install. Lights work!!
Pretty much two parts u need is the small wiring harness and a black box that is in the front of the car to the passenger side cubby. Its a black box similar to the black box for the rear led.
Once you have those two parts its all about rewiring based on the wiring diagram.
A lot of trial and error.
Best of Luck

I don't have the porsche oem leds but I have been creating some Led drl's for my car so this may help. The .1 has wires for the fogs, turn signal, and drl (city light, parking light, whatever you want to call it). It looks like the new ones just have a turning signal and a drl. My guess is it should be as easy as wiring that and leave out the fogs. You will probably need to add in a resistor for the drls. I also noticed that on the .2 the lights dim when you turn on your head lights. If that's the case their may be a relay built in that would have a seperate wire which you would probably hook up to the headlight power.

I can give you my wiring diagrams from porsche but its wrong!!
So i guess its useless but a competent electrician can figure it out.

Drl conversion
Hi Akshon, i have found an official porsche mechanic to do my rewiring at a cost of £125, he is a bit secretive and tells me pins in the control unit have to be altered, will see how he does it tomoro and post findings, so now only 24 hours till my drls work,

Finally Converted to Gen2 Drl's.
Hi guys just a quick note to say i have finished my front end conversion to gen2 and it looks awsome. as my car is a 4s the front grilles(997 505 563/4 05 9b1) are titanium and this looks really good against basalt black. A mechanic from an OPC converted my loom for me and charged £250 ($410), it took him about 20 minutes to do, when you turn ignition on the front leds come on, then when you turn lights on they dim , however if you want them really bright again just put on the foglight switch. only problems i had were the headlight washer units (997 628 163 01)are different on a gen2 and the mk1's cant be retro fitted, and also the centre duct surround (997 505 541 03 01c) also needs an additional air deflector to deflect the air to your rads, porsche part is called air routing (997 575 141 04 1c), even the dealer didnt know i had to have this, all in all well worth the hassle, car is going in next week for the rears to be done which as you guys know is really straightforward, well at long last its done
