Can a car be *too* black
never too black
I am a first time Porsche owner and was thrilled to pick up my new 2009 Carrera, black on black, PDK, sports chrono, blue tooth, bose stereo, 19" wheels......I loved the car from day one .a little nervousw about not having run flats or a spare like I had on my Ledxus SC430. That aside, something bothered me about the stock looking wheels.
I brought it to a local performance shop and had the wheels sent out for powdercoating-not gloss or matte, in between (forget what it is called). The shop took my center caps with Porsche crest and taped it off and painted them black to match the wheels. I was completely surprised when i picked up the carf a week later. Changed the entire appearance- much more aggressive and nasty looking. On the practical side, brake dust is much less visible than on the stock wheel. Hands down in my opinion, a much better look. I will post pics shortly.
Also, anyone have info on rear deck lid spoilers? I like the spoiler on the GT3 but am not sure about changing the stock Carrera look and also not sure about aftermarket companies. Anyone have info?

anyways I say do them matte black... makes the car look more agressive and really makes the car stand out...2nd choice would be the black wheels with a red "time attack"/red pinstripe... this will go great with your red brakes...DEFF do the wheels black, what ever way you end up going it will look great...good luck
Looking for some opinions before i do it...
I have black on black 997 C2S. Currently have carerra classic wheels. One rim is in need of some repair, so i'm thinking of getting all of them powdercoated matte black. I'm worried the car may be too black? Although the red calipers may give it give it some color.
So the options are:
1. Powdercoat 'em black
2. Powdercoat a different color, like gunmetal
3. Powdercoat black and paint edge or the rim a different color, like red or silver.
any other thoughts?

Your car looks great!
Mine came with black wheels. I liked it as it reminded me of the classic red/black wheel P cars of the past.

black on black looks good, but when you start going flat black on the wheels they begin to look like a wheel with a missing hubcap or one covered with brake dust. Some wheels can pull it off but If people go ALLL black there should be some popping colors to even it out -like having the calipers PC'ed Green, Red , Orange, White , Yellow or Silver.
also putting a pinstripe on the wheel with those colors ,with or without the cailpers painted looks good IMO

I say Powder Coat them gloss black and maybe put up a red pinstripe.
*** you could always PC them Gloss black, PAINT pin stripe WHITE, Get the tail lights so the clear/white is visible with the RED being completely black and get your brakes PC'ed white

I think that would look SICK, you could even keep the brakes RED and it would look amazing
You'll get many answers to an open-ended question. And they're all personal opinions. Basically, if it works for you, then go for it. Some will love it, and some will absolutely hate it. There's some cars here I think are tastefully modded, and others I think are horrendous...but that's my personal taste.
In general, I believe I have the taste of the "general" public...and not necessarily specific "enthusiast" groups such as, but not limited to the boy racer look, bling bling look, pimp my ride look, form follows function look, manufacturer modified look...etc. I think if the general population gives a particularly modified car the "thumbs up" then that's a good way to go.

Thanks. I absolutely love the new Fuchs wheels on the Sport Classic.

Thanks for the great replies. Yes, it seems theres alot of different opinions. I kind of like the idea of flat black with red pinstripe. I have some extra set of carerra sport wheels so if i really does not work, i could always switch them out.
Will post some pics after they are done!

As others point out though, this is just one person's opinion.
