I am really into 06 carrera s with heated seat, bose sound, navigation and tiptronic. (My wife will drive too)
Dealer asking me 51000 without tax and other fees.
I am thinking around $49000 all cash.
This is going to my first Porsche. So, can you guys tell me usually 05 or 06
prices and negotiate pricing tips?
It does not matter that either cabriolet or coupe.

Ask dealer for DME report. You can search here about DME; in a nut shell, it is a printout of the car's black box. It shows how many times the engine has been rev above certain RPMs.

With regards to prices, I have seen 06 C2S with 4K miles for $55K.

sounds like a great price! Definately do a carfax and if the miles are low enough, pay the extra money for a CPO(extended warranty) for peace of mind!

 

Mileage makes a huge difference. Not quite enough info to help too much. Be sure you've run a Carfax. Costs like $39 to sign up. How many prior owners? Pay for a Pre Purchase Inspection at a Porsche dealer. Make sure they check for bodywork. Any leaks? Condition of tires and brakes? Sport chrono option? - not sure how this affects the tranny on a tip - I know there is big impact on the PDK. Most of the '06 S's are over $50k, but most are 6 spd, so there will be a discount for the tip. Warranty left? Is it a dealer car with CPO? That's worth $2k. Best to have it fully checked out if private party, you're still looking at a good amount of money. Good luck and let us know!

I found one which is a 05 carrera cab midnight blue with tan leather.(non s) with a tip, navi, heated seats and xenon headlights. Unfortunately, this one does not have a sport chrono..
This one is a 39000miles on it and they are asking me $49025 included state tax fee. This one is a CPO vehicle. What do you guys think??
or Do I have to go with another one which is S models?

Search for one of the S versus non-S threads, it's been hotly contested many times before. A matter of your own needs and wants.
39k miles is a fair amount of mileage. $49k doesn't seem to compensate for the mileage on an '05, but it is a cab. Others can chime in. Regardless of the price, I would recommend finding a car with less mileage. Depends if it has every option you want and if you're in love with the color too.
If you find one that you "love", be sure to check it out with a PPI. Happy hunting!

 

Some random thoughts:

05: check mfg. date; Porsche made a # of internal improvements on the first year 997 that kicked in in Feb/Mar 2005.

Used "S" generally worth roughly 4-5K more than a standard.

Check Edmunds, KBB, etc. and you'll find that Tips are worth about a grand more than the manual, not the other way around.

Sport chrono is cute but not really that big deal on the 997.1

CPO easily worth $2000 if you are going to get 3 years (time and your mileage) out of it, so if it's part of a deal verify expiration date, not just what some sales flunky is telling you.

I'd almost guarantee that prices will be down at least 8% 6 weeks from now; even in good times people don't buy used Porsches in the North from mid Nov - mid Feb.

You are thinking a 4% discount off the asking price on the 06; you don't mention the mileage, but regardless I'd expect at least 10%. If you do a search you'll still find NEW 08's available at 20% off MSRP, so don't get hosed too badly on a used one.

Have fun - time is in your favor; with decent tires you don't want to be driving it at less than 40 degrees F anyway.

 

I extensively searched Michigan with another forum member last month . He found a new Cayman S 2008 at your price level and hands down I thought it was the better car in that range . I did not see even one 997S which grabbed my attention . A 39K five year old car may have a CPO but that will not gurantee that it won't face problems and when that CPO wears off ... the potential for repair expense can eat up whatever you hope to save going in .

If you are set on a 911 and you have 50K burning a hole in your pocket ..my advice is to look at leftover 09 cars and make payments going in rather than living in service and making those same payments to fix an older car.

 

On the other hand, if you are considering an 05 vs. 06, as tejoe mentioned above, there are several mechanical improvements done on 06 models. An important improvement were design changes to reduce/eliminate the dreaded engine RMS (Rear Main Seal) issue. For mechanical peace of mind, I would choose the 06 model.

 

Try to consider your budget - current discounts on '09 models are very attractive but if it is not reachable financially then there is no need to discuss it.

Based on IMS bearing update that was causing engine failures seems it was done in the beginning of 2006. Also, after 06/06 all 997 models got updated electronics - exterior looks same but part numbers changed into most recent. Other than that I do not know of any important 997.1 model updates.

Based on that - look for second part of '06 or '07 cars that will fit your budget and make CPO status mandatory.

If you even consider '09 as a possible option - jump on it until it`s gone.
It`s quite a no brainer, really, '09 PDK car with sport chrono is the best 997 ever built. If you have money for it - get it and enjoy it.

Some people seem to be able to buy car remotely, may be even your dealer can assist with that, somebody on this forum wrote about this before. Plus buying a brand new car with 0 miles on it is not the same as to buy a used one.

 

First, don't believe everything you read here. Second, negotiating entails researching the market (as you would do with anything you wish to buy) and establishing a price that you are willing to pay; It is not a big argument, you're polite but you don't allow the other guy to humiliate or walk all over you and you have the ***** to decline his offer if it is outside your range. Third, it is unusual to use the adjectives 'nice' or 'trustworthy' when referring to a dealer; at best hope for "Fair".
