996TT

Cons
Old
997 Carrera S
Pros
Newer (Under Warranty)
Better headlight style
Cons
Slower
which one would you get? pros? cons? i know this is the 997 forum, but try and be objective.

Well I was faced with this decision before I bought mine and WELL....997 S it was!
I figured I could make my 997 go as quick as a stock 996 TT easier than it was to make the rest of the 996TT visually stimulate me like the 997..
Just my opinion !

same here. I went with 997 S and don't regret it at all.you really just need to drive both and decide from there. What made up my mind was the 997 body style. if i went with 996tt, I would need to mod with GT2 bumpers and wing in order for it to be visually appealing to me, but still can't do anything about the headlights. also engine sound is much different between turbo and NA engines. I prefer NA.

If it had PDK, it would have to be a 2009 or 2010.

Not a fan of the 996tt unless one is ready to drop a lot of money to upgrade it . Stock to stock the 997S is more versatile . The interior quality , body structure, and design are superior IMO.

997 S but keep in mind that we are all somehow biased since we have this car... post the same question on the 996 forum and weigh the responses but it will be hard to be objective. Drive the 2 and figure out which one you like best. Maintenance cost on the Turbo are quite a bit higher than on the NA car. Good luck.

In fact if you could find a well kept 993 Turbo I would buy it over the 996tt and 05 C2s. It's that good !!!! Even still.

how come?
I would gladly pick the 996tt if I really thought it was the better car . I had two 996 cars (2000 and 2002) and decided NOT to buy the Turbo because comparing it to my previous 993 Turbo it would have been such a disappointment .

Because the 993 Turbo is the last of a legend . It is Porsches last air cooled Turbo making 400 Hp placing it leaps ahead of anything near its price of that time period and a firm competitor of many current cars. It's build quality , traditional interior , and short limited production of only two years (96 and 97) place it as a collectors car for many. In fact a low mile car will cost as much as an 09 C2S . As long as none of the cars which you have listed have warrarnty .. why not buy the last of the great air cooled 993 cars.
A few videos -
This Fabspeed clip shows the car in motion up close.

+1 to what yralis said..
in April 2008 i was in ur position, stuck between buying an 03 996TT with around 12k miles or a 2009 C2S..
I bought the C2S and couldnt be happier.. but yralis made a good point, why not buy a 993 TT.. in my opinion, i would take it over a 996TT or 997C2S any day!!

The only time that I have encountered a 996TT being faster is in a straight line acceleration. I track my car a lot, and no problem passing 996TT's, some of these cars have 500+ hp & tq.
The 996TT are heavier, and have a AWD system, where as the 997C2S is a lighter and is a RWD car. Both are very nice cars, and you won't be disappointed by either car. I really enjoy the RWD of my C2S and it is a blast to drive a true point and shoot car!
