3rd brake light

I see that the new 997 has LED lights at the back of the car. I just wonder when the lights changed to LED? There is a manufacturer who wants to start making LED 3rd brake lights for a 997.

The rear "fog light" is also part of this LED array. Don't know if this was new for '09 or is available on previous models (yes, I'm a newbie).

The rear LED brake lights (as well as LED fogs / DRL's) started on the '09 MY.
