Can sidemarkers also signal/ blink?
Can sidemarkers also signal/ blink?
Is there a dealer setting that will allow the sidemarkers to function along with the turn signals, and blink? This would be a no-brainer. Anyone know?

Not sure if that's what you're referring to.

What are they for then? Interesting.
In the US they are typically only sidemarkers, but they can be coded (PIWIS or Durametric) to turn signals like they are in many other countries.
Sure you can. here is just a cut and paste I sent to my dealer before picking up my ride. My sidemarkers are off and work only as blinkers. I also had him program that I can open/close the windows with my key fob remotely:
when they program the new fobs please have them also apply these PIWIS codes:
Sports Chronometer Remains lit in standby:
CU = Chronometer
Coding => Illumination => There are two options and it should be obvious to which needs setting (my memory isn't perfect).
Side markers flash as indicators:
CU = Front
Coding => Side Marker or direction indicator light =>
Windows open/close with the key in the door lock
First CU (Required for all window options):
CU = PAS
Coding => Comfort via radio remote control => (Currently set to lock or inactive) => Change to Release (Note: The wording maybe "Active" depending on PIWIS version but for all Release = Active and Inactive = Lock).
Coding => Comfort function Window => As above set to release
Coding => Door and Window Comfort Function => As above set to release for each key required.
Windows open/close using the remote control
OK back to the window functions, the next steps have to be coded for each door separately so I will only list it once:
CU = Drivers Door / Passenger Door:
(Window Open)
Coding => Open Comfort => Set to release as before
(Window Close)
Coding => Close Comfort => Set to release as before

Just got back from my dealer, who said that you can choose to have either the side markers as turn signals or the front as turn signals. To get them both to blink, you'd have to do some wiring in addition to the PIWIS coding.

The people who re-imported the 997's from US to Germany, got the turn signals activated (both front and side) with PIWIS, without any additional wiring.
I can tell you that my sidemarkers and blinkers blink. I gave you the exact step-by-step for programming up top. Print it and take it to your dealer. It should take him 10 minutes including hooking up the piwis.
Me like....Anybody have the instruction on how the dealer can do this?John
i think i will have greg hook me up next time..
If your dealer doesn't know how to do it (using PIWIS) you should find another dealer.
Same here.
