Thoughts on this C2S?
Thoughts on this C2S?
All,
My local dealership in Colorado has a green C2S with tan interior that's been on their lot for quite a while. I've seen it sitting there since last summer, if not earlier. I'm assuming it's a launch car based on the colors, but haven't talked with them about it in person yet.
They obviously want to get rid of it - they recently changed the turbo wheels that were on it and replaced them with Carrera classics, which look much better in my opinion. I checked it out on Sunday when they were closed, and it's actually a very nice looking car.
So, with the following details, any ideas about what kind of a deal I might be able to negotiate? Are these cars especially undesirable due to the green paint?
Sticker: $99K
6-speed
Options (from memory):
Nav
Bose
Power "comfort" seats (different from sport seats?)
iPod interface
No idea how many test drives, etc. I would ask for a DME.
I'm planning on driving it this weekend. It's way outside of my price range (looking at CPO 2006 cars) but it keeps drawing me back for another look! And I'm not finding many good cars for sale these days...
Thanks,
Mike

These 09 leftover launch cars have recently been going for 20-22% off MSRP.
There are plenty of recent threads about this.
This should get you closer to your price point - and be getting a 'new" C2S (997.2), vs 997.1

The green launch car had PDK . Of all the 09 models they are the most heavily discounted . Someone bought one here lasdt year in the low 70's and another forum member posted a deal of 75K on a new one almost two months after it was launched.
If yoirs is a 6 speed with Nav it is NOT a launch car so that is VERY IMPORTANT . The launch PDK will be less based on sheer supply numbers as 4 were given to each dealership at the launch.
Find out the exact options/miles/ warranty remaining . Then I can price guess it.

With that being said, still a very nice car that could be had for $72K?
One other thing to consider. While someone like me likes the green, I suspect its a much harder color to push, just like my current RubyRed car. (That works in your favor as a buyer).
But...........me personally.........I think the car looks nice.
Agreed. I think I found the car (turbo wheels) out there and it did not have vented seats..........which I also though were on the Launch Cars.

If this car is in fact a launch car , has a few miles, and not a CPO --it might even break 70K but realistically 72K would be a good first guess . The specifics on the car matter .
As much as the green is a controversial color with mixed opinion the main issue with the launch cars was that there are so many of them .
Each dealership was given
4 white C2 PDK cars (with no chrono)
4 green PDK C2S cars
4 meteor C4S cars with sport bucket seats
2 Brown Targas PDK with no chrono
2 Aqua C2S cabs PDK (no chono) .
Imagine the huge supply with so so options beyond even the color . Many of the dealerships still have the cars or sold then to independent lots even a year later.
2009 was an over supply year in general . In my opinion it will effect resale but the hardest hit will be the launch cars. In fact that huge 09 inventory might even place a price damper on the CPO market because if the 09 drops , so does the 08, the 07 . etc . Yet Porsche played this very smary when they strengthened the CPO program . The 07 cars are really holding very strong and the resillience is just amazing in the wake of the 2009 production overflow.
The Green (with sand beige) launch car was C2S PDK, and no nav and missing some other options I wanted. Prices in May when I was looking were $79K!!! Nice deal then for someone who could live with the configuration.

Ok I found the car . I see it's listed as an "internet special" which translates into exactly what you said "they obviously want to get rid of it" . It's not a launch car.
First off this is way above that 52K price limit
It's actually a very nice car but is obviously very hard to sell. it will also be hard for you when it comes to resale.
It is an unusual color . It lacks PDK. It also lacks Sport Chrono . BTW the Turbo wheels cost more than sport classics so that price ought to come right off. It's also one model year old.
It's not titled and new with a full factory warranty but it sat there for a year collecting dust .
There are incentives on 09 cars .
75K ought to close the deal. If they want more that that you may as well buy a 2010 car . That 09 car will depreciate one year the moment you take delivery . Don't feel bad if they let you walk on a 75K offer . Their inventory is so small that they are probably hoping to get more but they haven't gotten it yet .
Also keep in mind .. 75K can buy a lot of car --not just this one.
Whatever car you end up with it's most important to be sure that it's the right one for you.
Good luck.

Larry - you are awesome... thanks for taking the time! Definitely way above the limit
One of those typical things where you think about it long enough, and it starts to seem like a great idea. I actually found the color combo to be fantastic in person, and I much prefer the sport classic wheels with that color. Good to know that they're cheaper than the turbo's.
I'll think about it some more... At this point, I'm in no rush, and an 06-07 C2S in a more popular color will certainly be the financially smart way to go. But we'll see what happens - intelligence is no match for the "911 curse" people are talking about on that other thread!

It's hard to sort out the emotional reasoning when buying a car that you really want .It's easy to overlook a lacking option , what hurdles present itself in resale , or even the competition based on production. When you someday go to sell the green car it will compete with all those launch cars which do have PDK and still did not sell.
With all the confusion there is one thing that is certain --PRICE.
What you pay becomes the currency of that vehicle's life and each day the price points change.
As of today thse are my opinions
Price Opinion --
Under $40K -High miles or no warranty , wear and tear , the potential money pit -- It's like buying an airline ticket but flying with the luggage instead of a seat.
40K -53K - Less risk but still not out the woods. There's usualy some issue . The car is older , has visible wear, maybe even some paint --something !!! By the time you find out you will have spent another 5K , Plus you join the pool of endless baragain shoppers where any person who ever wanted a 911 thinks that the shiny car on the used lot is the real deal.
54- 60K - This is the price battle field . There are cars out there . They may have a few miles , a few years , a scratch or the potential that the previous owner picked his nose on that steering wheel in traffic at least once. But the car is still good --just hard to find the right one.
60-68K - Now we are talking . This price point throws out all the baragain shoppers and slices right under the new car market opening up a gap where the buyer can demand CPO, Low miles. Full history , no paint . The cars are USED but they are well kept and the owner took the big hit.
69K - 78K - This is a scary zone . Here the new cars which either did not sell well or the low mile cars can be found . Some are in great condition but not all . One coiuld either get very lucky or nery unlucky .
79K -86K - Here comes either the low optioned new cars without discounts or the high optioned leftovers with huge discounts . Personally --I feel this is the ideal price point for either a used Turbo or Gt3. In your case Turbo since Colorado has snow.
87K to 105K -- You can get almost anything you want , new , pristine used Turbo , etc.
105K - 120K -- Cabs -lots of options . Late model Turbo used , Low optioned Gt3's at sticker.
Beyond that -- C4S Cab or Turbo territory .

Beautiful color combination I think (http://www.porscheofboulder.com/deta...s-4450917.html) but the comments are right, will be tough to sell eventually (I had the same combo on my Cayenne and it scared people off for some reason, I like it).
Check out used car prices on KBB and what you would get for the car if you put it on the market the day after you bought it - it is in the low to mid 70s.
But - if you love the car, the options and plan to drive it for a while and can pick it up in the $70s (which I doubt, but you never know) - go for it ...
Mike - why don't you use the board to help you with the search, this is a group of great guys (and girls) that is just looking at Porsche deals all the time. If you post a thread "Looking for my 2006 911S" and list the color options you consider and the features you want and put down your target price (I assume for a 2006 somewhere in the low $50s), you will have 10 options to choose from in no time.
A few options:
Red 2006 911S Cab for $49k - bose high end sound, wheels caps with colored crest, 3 spoke multifunction steering wheel, self dimming mirrors, bi-xenon headlamp package, power seat package, 19" carrera classic wheel, sand beige floor mats, tiptronic s, parking assist system, chrono package plus, porsche crest in headrest, and aluminum look door finishers.
