Maybe I am missing it but the central question I get from the OP is the quality of the car as opposed to the quality of the service. I also had the PDK valve unit replaced, I had the entire PCM replaced (after first trying other parts based on P's recommendation), I have the whiny scratch (high pitch) noise off the PDK shifter housing, I had the warranty update on the exhaust, the PCM s/w update, and I had a screw left in the area under the central arm rest that rattled around on every turn. Changing service providers would not have changed any of this. Is any of this worse than my experience with my M5 or 540i back a bit? No. It just speaks to the quality of the supply base, the diagnostic ability built into the electronics, the line build people, and the tight squeeze the mfg puts on the dealer to ensure the dealer doesn't just change out random parts when they look to diagnose a problem (that they don't have any tools for when the new models first ship). I went round and round with BMWNA once because the dealer couldn't diag a problem (and clearly didn't have the tools to do so), the dealer was having problems getting BMWNA to come help, and BMWNA's response to me was to go to another dealer (which wouldn't have had the tools either). I can't blame the dealer at BMW or P for any problem or fix of a problem I have had with a car in the last 15 years. I can blame BMWNA and PCNA though.

I hear you. On my way to one of the dealers now to have them replace the driver mirror (again) and meet with the Sales & Gen Manager about trading in. I hate to admit it, but one of the Sales Manager (for a sister dealership) is a client of my wife, so she might end up being the one opening the door to move into the Panamera.

I've got 4200 miles on mine since May and I have had zero issues and I haven't even had to add any oil.

I am at 7000 miles on a 10 month old 997.2S and it has been completely worry free! (I am not counting rattles and other things that are smallish issues). Mechanically all has been well. Even the huge clouds of burnt oil have stopped now that I don't park the car with the nose facing downhill! At this point, My S4 had 2-3 issues with ignition coils and a wonky cruise control, and my M3 had the ignition coil thing too, along with a bad radio antenna. So I guess the 911 is doing great!
My advice--> get a better service technician! They make all the difference!

I believe that a solid dealership would help you in hedging the issue. if not the sister dealership .. the one who sold you the car ought to step up .

Every once in awhile a bad car ends up stressing both the customer and service . The lemmon laws and legal arbitration route is like taking on a part time job with a car that depreciates over time.

The concept of "saving for the rainy day" to me means admitting that the car is not working out rather than remaining in denial . If 15K gets you out of the mess with the service nightmare --to me its sounds like an immediate positive moving forward process. Good luck.

In this case, I purchased the car from an individual seller, so I don't have a dealership to hold accountable. One of the dealers I'm working with has been absolutely fantastic in helping me move into a PanS, it's just a matter of me signing the papers on it tomorrow.

If only the 2-door Panamera (928?) were already here, it would be such an easy decision! But the thought of moving out of my 'keeper' Carrera isn't easy.

You can't re write the first part of this equation but the purchase steps you take moving forward can determine your future driving experience.

I like the Panamera S -- it is a very different car . I even prefer the four door . I feel if one is opting for a big car .. four doors are the way to go. I never liked the 6 series BMW --big car little interior.

Just to be sure that you are over the 997S --A Panameras S costs as much as a 997S . Have you considered another 997S ? Maybe even one without PDK ..( just pure simplicity) . Or are the fears of seeing the same problems so great that you just want a fresh start ?

I don't feel you can go wrong with either car . Just the fact that the dealership has reached out to you reflects that despite being a business , they seem to care about placing you in a car that you are happy with It will no longer be your problem and that's got to feel like a relief.

I think the ONLY two things you have to decide is : 1) which new car , and 2) Price .

I think this is going to work out well for you .

Obviously individual experience varies widely. I took delivery of my C2S Cab in 4/09 (3/09 build) and just hit 5K miles. I changed the oil last week and there was no significant consumption reported by the mechanic. I have had no quality issues to report thus far, but this car is not my daily driver either. Supposedly the manufacturing process Porsche utilizes reduces worker performance variability and reliability. I am more inclined to believe that vendor supplied component failures are a much greater issue.

good luck to the OP with your Panamera purchase! My 09 C2S cab(12/08 build) has been perfect except for oil consumption. I have 6600 miles now after owning the car for 9 months. I've had to add about 2 quarts of oil. I am going to the dealer to get the oil changed at 7500 miles and get the dash rattle fixed as per a TSB.

Thanks. I've realized that at this point, the only obstacle to making the move is a mental one. Basically, I have a $110K car that I paid $85K for, and I'm looking to switch to a $110K car that I'll still be paying over $100K for.

Since there isn't an established market for the Panamera, I'm having a difficult time gauging the future value of the car. That's one of the reason's why the lease rates aren't exactly all that fantastic. Having said that, I'd almost prefer to lease the car (even if the lease payment isn't much better than purchase) because I could return the car if the value falls out of it, or I would have option to purchase if it's held it's value.

And since it's frickin pouring in Dallas today, no chance of getting out in the C2S to let her convince me to keep her in the family

No. My car is only 6 months old and with 3500 miles I will wait.

My oil service scheduele is as follows -
The Turbo --one year or 5K miles (whichever comes first) .
997S - one year or 7500 miles (whichever comes first).
