wider track.. 997 C2 or C2S ??

if u said same or C2S, u'd be wrong.

i was surprised, also.

but according to 911 book (2007),

the carrera has a rear track of 60.39 in (1534 mm)

the Carrera S has 59.69 (1516mm)

all the 4's have 60.94 (1548mm)

we are not talking about the fatter fenders (which is 1.73 in or 44 mm wider)..

but the actual rear track.

why would there be any differences between the carrera and the S ?

and why would the S have a narrower tracks?

thoughts or explanations?

excuse my ignorance if this has been discussed. and the pic was taken with my phone

I am sure that this track is due to wheel offsets and tire sizes.

i would think S would have wider track because:

non S come on 18" with 265's,
S come on 19" with 295's... thats 30mm a side... so thats 15mm out each side.. giving you 30mm wider track right there...

non S being wider... have no clue why that would be...

only thing i can think of is lower offsets because of narrower tires?

Wider tires need to fit in the same wheel well. Therefore, the attachment point needs to be closer to the body.

I think track is measured from center line of the left tire to center line of the right tire, which means cars with wider tires typically have a smaller track width.

That's why cars with the staggered wheel fitment (different widths front to rear) typically have a wider track up front. Think of the wider tires sticking into the car rather than out from the car if that makes sense.

Correct (actually center line of wheel) , so tire width does not change the track, but changing the wheel offset will. To the OP: difference between the base and the 'S' is the difference in the rotors / wheel hubs .
