997 Factory Navigation Retrofit Question

I'm hoping to get a quick answer on this question-- I'm looking at a 997S with no factory navigation. If I bought the car, what steps are required to install the factory nav? The dealer told me it is as simple as buying a factory nav unit and installing it (since the non-nav cars already come with the same screen on the dash). Is this all true? If so, what is the cost of the unit I need to buy?

Thanks!

If it is a 997.1 it is very easy. I added my own. Basically bought the DVD drive off ebay, ordered remaining misc. parts from Suncoast and about 30min later I was done.

What year is the car? Porsche has a TSB document that outlines all the necessary parts and instructions. Or just call Suncoast and they will set you up with everything you need.

...yes, and you may have to get the instrument cluster properly coded to the Nav. So allow for a trip to the dealer.

We offer the complete package, click HERE for details. The kit comes with everything required for the installation. A dealer will have to activate the unit, no bypassing that. If you're going to buy used parts, make sure you buy the correct version for your car. If I can help, let me know.

I'll be selling my complete system next week, after I get a Kenwood unit installed. I'm also having new speakers put it, so I'm hoping to sell as much as possible as a system. I'm dealing with a great auto A/V shop with plenty of P-Car experience, so I'm hoping they get most of it out.

I did it very easily. Used the net for the instructions, ebay and Suncoast for the parts.

Very easy...
