top speed (mph) in each gear?

just out of curiosity (and for the sake of not grenading the engine on any downshifts), does anyone know the top speeds in each gear for a c4s 997.1 stick?

41, 69, 100, 125, 148, 182.....watch the the 5-2 shift (going for 4th/ooops!)as it is the killer, but you know that. The tranny will usually keep you out of accidentally finding 4-1= aaaargh! but it can be done. I try to go down one at a time but 6-4 is generally safe and 5-3 slightly less so. Ratios are pretty close up there.

This matches my observation through 4th gear. Never maxed out 5th or 6th gears though.

Have fun confirming for yourself!

I remember years ago when the VWs from the 1960s had tick marks on the speedometer. They indicated tha maximum speed for each gear. I am sure they save a lot of $$$ by doing this and eliminating a tach. These marks let you know if it was safe to downshift into third or second gear, in this case a bit more useful than a tach. Such marks would would be helpful in the 997 except I can't see the analog speedometer. For the driving I do, I just need to remember that downshifting into 2nd is OK as long as I am below 70 mph. I really have no problems getting the right gear.

I drive a c2 and found that when on the street cruising in 3rd at 4k RPMs downshifting into 2nd lands me in the sweet spot of 2nd gear giving me one he'll of a boost!!

4k is my downshift point
