Bluetooth Interface

Can this module be added fairly easily from a dealer if not installed at the factory on let's say a 2009 C4S ?!?

It can be added but it might cost you north of $300 for labor.
You can buy the part on Suncoast (a board sponsor here).

Thanks... dealer says it has a Mobile Phone prep option, but assuming that is not bluetooth and want to know for sure that I can add later, the cost would not be a deal breaker to me.

Mobile Phone prep can only mean one thing in a 2009 car with the PCM 3.0...BlueTooth.

My dealer said that on any car with the PCM 3.0, you can add Bluetooth and Audio Interface (USB) but you cannot add XM. I was quoted all in about $500.00 to do either (parts and labor) and a bit less if both were being done at the same time.

Good luck! It can be done.

I don't believe that statement is correct.

Phone prep still takes on several possibilities:

  1. Phone built into the car - you slide your SIM card (ie you have a GSM phone and cloned the card or got a 2nd one from your carrier) into the SIM slot on the PCM3. The cars cell amplifiers and antenna are used to make the call.
  2. Bluetooth SAP - SIM Access Profile - your GSM phone uses bluetooth ONLY to interface your own cell phone's SIM card with the phone built into the car. The car's own cell amplifiers and antenna are used to make the calls.
  3. Bluetooth HFP - Hands Free Profile - your cell phone is used for everthing in the cell handshake ( your cell phone's amp and antenna, etc)... the bluetooth connection is only used to use the cars audio system and mike as the handset, and as keypad.. so you can pick up, hang up, dial, talk and listen via the car, but the cell phone's electronics are not built into the car.

Option 3 is the most typically used one for US based 997.2's I suspect and what I think you were refering to. With GSM based carriers in the US, (AT&T and T-Mobil) you do have the capability of ordering the car to operate under options 1 or 2 as well.

That said, the 997.2 cars will have the bluetooth radio interface in all cars, regardless of whether a phone package was purchased. Consider the bluetooth connection, which is a basic dumb datalink, to be the equivalent of a radio frequency wiring harness. Thus folks with cars that had no phone options enabled from the factory, still see they have bluetooth interfaces. Porsche uses that to connect the phone external handset that can be ordered, for example.
