I just did the same while adjusting my shifter cables.

Is it possible to reset the light using a generic ODBII code reader?

You can't reset the airbag light using a generic OBD2 scanner. The airbag codes are stored in the SRS control unit. Generic OBD2 scanners, read and clear codes from the Engine Control Unit (ECU) which has nothing to do with airbag codes.

If you are in the US, the cheapest way is to go to YOUCANIC website and rent their full system scanner. It's cheaper than going to the dealer. They ship it anywhere in the US. Plus you can use the scanner to diagose any other car / issue.

Thanks
Just FYI this happened on an old Mercedes of mine they could not find what the problem was a month later the airbag went off on the driver side window while driving on highway at night. So lucky no cars were around could not see from all the white powder coming out of airbag! This is a safety issue
