911 C4S Cab I'm Considering Purchasing - What do you think?

Thanks. Yeah, been pretty busy with work and the family of late so haven't had a chance to frequent the boards to much. Besides, finally got some decent weather after a miserable spring so trying to put some miles on the car with the little free time I've got.
Yeah, I'm sure the prices have dropped a pretty penny. One of the reasons why I try to avoid looking at current selling prices once I got my car. No reason to second guess myself as that would drive me crazy. Most important thing is that I was comfortable with the price I paid and have loved every minute since I've had the car.
"You are one of the few who could break even on yoir car after driving it a year." Coming from you, that does add to the comfort of my purchase and is just extra gravy on the potatoes

Since you've been absent the prices have actually increased on the used cars . The original poster's car was asking 79K but it's not an isolated example . In fact an 07 Turbo is still asking in the 90's and closing in the 80's and those prices were attainable as well last year .
The resillience of the used market price points leaves me speechless -- i still remember the deals of the past .
I don't believe that the used pricing bubble is sustainable . For awhile it was even hard to find cars in searches but now there are many cars and I see a lot of thiem stay listed sometimes for months. It's as if the seller is just sitting around waiting for the one buyer who just has to buy it at any price .
I speculate the the next wave of bargains will come on 2010 leftovers . I see so many in inventory and even though Porsche lowered production --
every day the 2010 cars sit unsold .. they get old. The dealerships had one year to sell the 2010 cars and it's now July . If they don't discount them at least 15 percent then one may as well buy an 2011 car .
I looked carefully at upgrading to a '09 4s due to the interest in a pdk and pasm just today. I wild ride i had ! The numbers are clearly up on the new as well as the cpo's from last year but remember the base for pcars has jumped 5%. I think this is a great time to buy (but last summer was also). It's amazing how many Met. Gray / Black 4s' are out there now !
About the '08 4s: w/o seeing the car the cost in the low $80's seems high but remember the 4 + the S is $18k more then a base pcar so the guys are saying a base '08 should be in the low to mid $60's (oh that's what I got my c4 at). Good math !

Ok guys, I hear you - loud and clear: too expensive and be patient. Great advice. You clearly know the market. I'm going to focus on the private seller market. There does seem to be a rather large price difference in private sellers v. independent dealers v. Porsche dealers.
One question: on a new '10 Porsche, how much of a discount do you think is possible? What happened in '09 with the oversupply issues - how much discount did any of you receive from MSRP/ or relative to invoice cost?
Thanks!

TexasPorsche,
FWIW, I bought my car from a private seller. I wasn't to worried about a CPO since my car still had nearly three years of warranty left and the PPI and DME checked out great. I do remember when I was looking that the prices the Porsche dealers were asking for used cars (both CPO and non-CPO) were dramatically higher then what I found from private sellers.

In 09 the supply was so abundant that cars were at the port and dealerships didn't want them so Porsche offered incentives. This led to huge deals . I got 20 percent off . I wasn't extremely picky with color but focused more on options and finding a car that was in inventory to pin the deal on that same day. It basically was a take it or leave it offer . 20 percent off or I walk.Originally Posted by TexasPorsche

Times have changed though and 20 percent off is unlikely.
Back in march .. a forum member took advantage of a Porscbe incentive program and got 15 percent off.
At this point in time .. regardless if Porsche has a program or not .. I would insist on 15 percent off and call several dealership until one said yes . Start close to home .. and the further away you have to travel .. the better the deal has to be to make the trip worth the effort.
You'll have a car by tomorrow.
Someone has to want to sell a car.
Thanks for that - I now know what a rock-bottom price is on a 911.
Does anyone know of any new '09s still in stock @ a dealer?
Thanks!

a) hard to find
b)undesirable options /color
c) left at dealeships who refused to baragin for the last two years on them and aren't about to start now.
d) have been test driven by every tire kicker in town
e) overpriced if above 30 percent off original MSRP.
In short --if 09 is the year .. you are better off looking for a used car with a private owner who selling it for logical reasons .
Otherwise .. I'd negotiate on 2010 cars .
