BMC-F1 Filters for 997S.2 - Any Improvement?

Has anyone tried or is anyone using the BMC-F1 filters in a Gen-II 997S? I can't seem find any real-world feedback on whether they make any power or how they sound.

I'd be grateful for any insights anyone can give

Hi Ian,
I am also from NW UK. I fitted the BMC air filter last year. It does make a bit more noises esp. when you open the window going through a tunnel. If you are aftering power that you can feel through your butt, I think you need a lot more mods on a normal aspirated engine!

PS. I got the X51 kit fitted to my gen 2 s. The PSE and the BMC filter do make a nice duet! If you wish to hear their tune, why not organise a 911 meet

Thanks Herbie.

You're right about needing to do more mods to get any meaningful increases from an N/A engine - especially one that's already giving over 100BHP/litre.

As I've modded literally every car I've ever owned, I guess I've learnt the odd thing or two, over the years, about what works and doesn't An example of this is the BMC panel filter that I put into my last car (a 997S.1). This small, insignificant-looking mod punched well above its weight when combined with the other mods on the car (AWE headers / cats / mufflers). As the filter area in the stock airbox on the Gen-1 cars is marginal at best, something that flowed better really opened-up the intake and allowed the engine to rev noticeably more freely at the top of the rpm range.

What I was wondering was whether this is also the case with the Gen-2 cars? The stock Gen-2 airbox with its twin filters provides much more filter area than the single filter in the Gen-1 so I'm wondering if the paper filters in the Gen-2 can flow enough air anyway? If so the BMCs would just be a waste of money.

Do you find any difference at all in how the car performs from fitting the BMCs?

Hi There,
The 2 cone filters does cost a bit more than the previous panel filter for the 997.1 as you are effectively buying 2x induction kit.

Ignoring the noise, the car does rev a bit more freely at the top end but I don't feel any difference in midrange. I had no doubt it probably release a few more ponies at the topend. Whether it is worth the expense, I haven't regret spending my hardearn cash!

Just like any porsche mods, not much hp gain for a lot of ŁŁŁ!

Ian we tested stuff like this (K&N) and honestly nothing showed up on the dyno Plus that factory intake is pretty darned good in comparison to the 997.1 I was amazed to see twin cone filters when I got my car on day one!

I did the BMC filter on my 09 Carrera S just so that I can keep them clean. Here in Florida it is very sandy and it is just easier to clean the BMC filter than to keep replacing the stock filters.
I felt no difference or heard any difference between stock or BMC. Do not waste your money unless you have a reason like I do.
Also the stock 2001-2010 air box is a very good intake. I see no reason to change it out.

Thanks Alex / mdrums - I thought this might be the case - the stock setup looked like it was going to do the job very well.
