9500xi. It is mounted on a bean bag that sits on the dash and plugged into the outlet in the passenger foot well. When I park I just pick up the bag and detector and put it under the seat and out of sight. Here in the nanny state of California it is illegal to mount anything on the windshield.

Escort 9500 IX (the GPS model). I had heard a lot of great things about the V1, but was concerned that it would be generating false positives in the consistent and dense CHiP locations in the CA environment very often. With the GPS function, and the fact that there are a huge number of red light cameras here, it seemed like the right choice.
If I was consistently traveling long distances or new areas I likely would have gone with the V1.
I am very happy with it and it is a great gadget for my inner geek. The laser detection is an added bonus but without signal shifting, I doubt it will ever save me but rather will be the first to tell me that Ive been tagged.

V1 mounted on windshield to left of rear view mirror. Did the install myself with the help of the post on rennlist.com. Have one in my BMW 545 also. Love it.

I also have a LI Dual in my hands waiting for install. I like the placement of the on/off switch in that integrated V1 install under the parking brake. I am going to put my LI on/off switch there!

I have the 9500ix also but I mount it with a small velcro strip on the dash (but I like your bean bag idea - very clever). I got it for the GPS capability to detect fixed photo enforcement and it works well with that as long as the database is kept up-to-date. The regular radar/laser detector functions work well too, although not quite up to the level of the V1.

Questions for your V1 veterans: Are there different generations of V1 since a decade a go?

yes there are. Only 2 'box' versions IIRC, but there are a # of different firmware generations. As an original owner of one, they will update firmware for free or nominal charge depending on unit age.

Try a visor clip to mount mine picks up just as good and is stealth, however you do have to do a hardwired install and there are kits for that also ... 1/2 hour install.

I watch the cars in front of me and keep an eye down the road.. thats my radar detector. Off of open highways and interstates, I also try and stick to within 5-10mph of the the posted limit.

Great way to drive, however for me it's for the times I forget or am not watching. Example: Driving along at 65mph and it drops to 55 mph and I miss the sign.

Scoper,

Check out my install of the LI. I mounted mine under the e-brake.

I've used an Escort for years. I haven't gotten a ticket for at least 30 years, but I don't go much over 10 miles over the limit. I really just use it to keep me alert in case I've missed a speed limit sign. I must say I miss the Autobahn at 200KM.

V1 suction cup mounted to left of rear view. It takes time to get used to it, but it's usually considered the best by most users on these forums.

Does the V1 have an auto mute function or is it only manual when you push the mute button?
