FabSpeed Muffler Bypass
FabSpeed Muffler Bypass
What exactly is the FS Muffler Bypass?
Does it simply remove the stock muffler and replace with a plain pipe (and reuse the stock tips?
That's why I was asking about electric cutouts in my other thread... Because if the bypass just replaces the mufflers, what's the difference between that and e-cutouts?
My preference then would be for the e-cutouts to have control over the volume when I wanted it... that is, if both basically do the same thing.

My car is a 2009 911 Carrera with the 3.6L engine and PDK clutch...

These are the electric cutouts I was talking about:

Think of your mufflers as glorified silencers. They mute the sound of exhaust flow. You can alter the sound somewhat with an active PSE system but you'll not get them to be as loud as what the bypass pipes offer.
You'll lose some weight in the rear end ( which is a good thing ) but I seriously doubt you'll pick up 12hp as Fabspeed advertises. In fact, you'll probably lose low end torque as back pressure is reduced.

I can't speak for exactly how it's set up for the 997, but I had a Fabspeed X pipe on my 2008 M3 (recently totaled in a fire, to be replaced by a 997). In the M, it deleted two cats and replaced them with resonators. There was also a straight option that had no resonators, that was obnoxiously loud.
Mark we have two muffler bypass pipes available: We have an X-Pipe which is a direct replacement for the primary resonator; this will work with the OEM side mufflers. We also have the side muffler bypass pipes which bolt directly to the stock resonator (these being more aggressive than just the X-Pipe but also save more weight).
