HP Divers Ed..Going Solo
HP Divers Ed..Going Solo
Just completed two days at N.J.MotorsportPark with the Jersey Shore Region PCA. Only my second event this year due to schedule headaches.
Well run event with only 10-12 cars in each group on the 2.25 mile 12 turn thunderbolt track.
My instructor was very good, as most in PCA are.
I was signed off to solo after in the upper level beginner group (yellow) which gave me a chance to put together everything I have learned in the last year.
After a somewhat tame first two laps alone, where i breaked too early, I relaxed more and managed to get into into a nice flow and my speed was where it should be.
As everyone says with some solid track time you can understand and control what your car is doing.
Applying techniques to control the cars dynamics, threshold breaking, smooth turn-ins, apex throttling and track out, passing off line; really start to make sense as you learn and progress.
The track on the second day was being used in the upper run groups by many of the racers getting ready for the weekend events. So marbles were more prevalent and that was another learning experience. (Cleaning, removing, dealing with wobbling)
If you get a chance I suggest getting to a PCA DE event. Try it at least once. It truly allows you to appreciate these cars in their performance glory.
I'll be heading to one in Pocono in Sept and again to NJMP in Oct. If you want any info drop me a line.
