dimming mirrors

is there a way to tell if a car has dimming mirrors by looking at the car? is there a sensor in the rear view mirror?

Drive at night and if the lights from cars behind you blind you you don't have the

dimming mirrors. I also noticed they have a yellowish look to them. While I don't have the self dimming on my 997.1 I have noticed on other brand cars the rear view mirror does have a sensor and its beefer looking than a non dimming mirror.

I dont think there is a sensor. I believe it is the composition of the reflective material. & they do sometimes look a tad "yellower".

Prolly only way to really know is to drive the car at night....

I know my rearview mirror has a power light (green) towards the bottom.

If you have dimming mirrors, the interior mirror will be missing the leveler (to tilt the mirror at night). That's one clue. If the interior is dimming so are the side rearview mirrors because they come as one package.

In the 997.1 the dimming rearview mirror has a button on the bottom of it to enable/disable it. When the bottom is pushed a little green light shows that it is active. IMO not a great feature, I usually drive with it off, once in a while when some SUV wants to tailgate me I'll switch it on.
