Looking to purchse 997 c2s or TURBO. which one is best?

Hi everyone,

In near future I am planing to join the club of Porsche owners :-)

As of now I am looking at 3 categories:

1. 2007 911 Turbo under 75k (preferably manual)
2. 2008 911 2s/4s under 68k (manual only)
3. 2009 911 2s under 72k (preferably manual, maybe PDK)
(I am not a GT 3 guy as I have a 5 month old and wife who is going to kill me if I buy a Skateboard :-)

Obviously the 2. Category offers the most selection. A cheap turbo is though to get and if they offer one with low(er) millage its usually gone within one week form autotrader.
I am a cart enthusiast but was never able to drive a Super-car like the TURBO.
How much more driving pleasure do I get from the TURBO in daily driving?
How much higher is the running Cost of an TURBO? I guess it keeps the value much better, after which year of ownership would the running cost outgrow the more stable value of a TURBO?
Do I get more pleasure at all, are the natural aspirated engines more fun!?
A Porsche Mechanic advised me that the new direct-injection Engines are not fully developed and he would go with an 2008!?
But I am a tech guy so I would really like the newer PCM.

After all are there any options I should look out for? other then those:

PCM
BOSE
Sport chrono

I can't go for the Sport seats as my Shoulders are to wide for them (maybe the adaptive Sport Seats!? haven't tried them)

Thanks for your time,

Jonas

I am weighing turbo vs. 911s myself. I owned a 997s cab and loved it...I felt though after a bit I wanted more power. However, after driving a few 996 turbos, I am concerned about the lag and just simply can't fall in love with the turbo. For me, my 997s was a cab and have driven a few coupes...they feel so much quicker to me.

In the end...like everyone will advise here...go drive all of them and this will help you quickly arrive at a decision. 997 turbo perhaps has less lag than 996TT, but for me, 997s has more than enough power. I enjoy the responsiveness of the throttle and handling a bit better of the 997s. Moreover, many may speculate with the arrival of the GTS, it may remove some of the luster of the 997TT and in turn, add to its depreciation curve more than in the past.

You’ll find there is a wide range of differing opinion on the merits of each model, and also some “my model is the better 911 because…” mentality on every side, much of it subjective. It depends on what you are looking for in the ole’ driving experience. I agree with the above - the only way to figure out exactly what you want (after what you feel comfortable spending) is to drive them. Get familiar with each and pick your poison. The search function will give you more NA vs Turbo debating that you can shake a stick at, on this or any 997 forum.

For your specific questions, I wouldn’t worry too much about the 2009 DI engines, but it has been an issue for a few people. I’d actually say 2007s as they’re experienced more depreciation and are the same as 2008s pretty much. For options, I really like the PSE. There are good aftermarket options but I like the touch-button option. The only other option I wish I had would be the adaptive sport or bucket seats.

I feel that your price points are too low on the 07 turbo and the .2 S . The 08 car sounds too high. Low 60's ought to be more like it for an 08 S.

Leaving price out of the equation the 07 Turbo is an amazing car but then you'd have to modify it and add all the tech equipment making the price climb too high.

Out of all the cars and your need for technology I would look for a 2010 leftover car.
The 09 car will cost in the upper 70's with low miles and CPO . That's a lot of money to spend on a car with doubts about how it was driven as well as it's two year old age. a 2010 car will cost about 8K more and it will be brand new with no miles and full warranty.

So my vote goes to --none of the above .

Spend money - the 2010 car.
Save money -- a 2007 car in the upper 50's and add the ipod and gadgets.

Hi,

thx for the answers, I know the turbo has a low Price point, that's because its about the MAX I want to spend, as I am going to import the car i won't be able to take a loan.
So this will probably also the reason I won't be buying a 2010 even if its tempting to step in a Brand new car.
I am just very curious if its worth it to go with a Turbo - sacrificing in "optimal" options - clean carfaxe's - preferred color-combination's
As of lag of Time I won't be able to go test-drive a lot.
I live in Canada and won't be able to jet to the states all the time test-driving cars. And I am not the kind of Person who can walk in A Dealership pretending he is interested in buying a car, while I am not.
So I am more trying to find so "right" car online - fly there, drive it, fall in love, make a deal and get it shipped.

What do you guys think about this one:

I feel its a little expensive but with a little negotiation you might have yourself a very hot ride!?

This is the Turbo I am looking at right now, even if the beige interior is not my thing:
