I am surprised he hasn't designed a better tool to open the key with out damaging the plastic. It could also serve as a key polisher when not being used to replace the battery

Are we the only two people ever to attempt this?

No need to pry. The blades are attached in an angle. So when you push back the slider, the blade is removed by just turning the blade....hmmm how would i better describe it? With the key laying flat, try holding the key fob down and then twist the metal blade counter clockwise or clockwise (cant remember which direction). The metal blade disjoint itself where the fob and the metal blade connect up. The plastic spring keeps it in place.

That's a negative.

I removed the little spring (see pic hopefully) and turned the key blade both clockwise and counter-clockwise on its lengthwise axis.

Nothing is budging. What am I missing?

I've attached an updated picture, I don't have my keys with me right now since as i'm on holiday, but based on your picture i've outlined what the blade looked like on my keys and how i turned the blade to remove it from the fob

mmmatrix,
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
Still no go I'm afraid. Either I'm unusually clumsy or I'm still missing something.

I try to turn the blade in the direction of the arrow (counter-clockwise in the same plane as the fob) and nothing budges...

You are pretty close. As long as the spring is out ( that's the locking pin ), you can pull the blade straight out. You can twist sideways back and forth while pulling. If that fails, then find the notch between the blade and the black plastic and use a screw driver to wedge it out. Pull at the same time if possible or pull after. It should slide out. Key blade is all metal. The plastic part is part of the case. Hope this works for you.

And after you pull out the blade. You have to switch the small black rectangular piece which is the transponder or else key won't work. Good luck.

Yes!!!!

That was it. Thank you!

The blade just slides out... Almost in a straight line.

All this time I was trying to dislodge it and it was ready to just slide straight out.

Thanks everybody!

T33,
Hate to do this, but:

Any suggestions on how to switch the transponder?

That's great. I'm glad you got it out. I know how frustrating it is to be soo close.

I'll try describe the steps in reference to your picture. The transponder is the black rectangular piece on the lower right hand below the battery. This is sitting and glued on the rectangular slot. If you're lucky it would not be glued on too much. What you need to do is use a thin blade like an Exacto knife or a small screw driver to loosen the sides. Kinda like trying to take a cake off a baking pan. If you're lucky it should pop right out. If not, try to wedge the screw driver and twist gently to try to pry it out. Don't worry if the plastic around the transponder would stretch. It won't affect the function or the cosmetics of the key fob. Once the transponder is out, you can just pop it into the new case without glue. It should sit right into the slot.
Don't forget the you have to swap the transmitter too.
Good luck.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

You responded to a pretty old thread but with a fantastic first post! A picture (or video in this case) is worth a thousand words.
