Keys

Bought used 2008 - dealer gave me 2 keys - one was the original key and the second was a new one. Both remote heads work and both keys start the car...but the new key will not unlock the door. Visually the.keys do look slightly different. Any idea on why the new key will start the car but not unlock the door. Old key does both.

Probably the new key has to be programmed.

OK...but the new key starts the car just doesn't unlock the door - does the door lock require programming too?

I had a third key (with the newer style FOB) made for my car and had the same problem. The key was programmed correctly to open the doors trunk and start the car, but did not open the door. Turns out that they had cut the key incorrectly. Tech told me that they must of picked up the wrong key to copy from (another customers key). They had no problem re-copying the key and now I am able to open the doors.

Just make sure to bring with you the original key that does open the doors and ask them to copy that one.

Starting the car has nothing to do with how the key is cut, only how the key is programmed to a particular car.

Hope this helps!

Matt
