Diagnostic OBDII socket

I tried to use my new OT2 today and noticed my OBDII socket was loose. I could not get a good connection with it no matter how hard I tried. Is the red colored socket fascia a cover or is the socket bare? I think mine may just be loose and won't give me a solid connection.

The OT-2 had network problems though and wouldn't work in 2 other cars. They are sending me a return label and replacement so I will have to wait a bit longer to try it out via the network. I am gonna see if I can get it to work in the interim with the USB cable and my mini laptop.
