2010 Carrera or 2008 Carrera S?
thanks for the tips guys! I phoned the dealership to ask about those cars they have in the lot. Turned out the 08 is actually an USA import. In that case, they are asking for at least $15k over the wholesale value. The guy told me on the phone saying that they have a 06 C2S w/ 21000kms on it and it's a 6 speed manual w/ full options except for the PCCB. Problem w/ that is they want $70k for that 06 and I am not going to pay them that kind of money for sure. We will see what happen over the weekend when I get to visit them in person. Again, thank you all so much for the advises.
Those are crazy prices...
I was facing a similar dilemma last year, thinking that I could use the incentives on the 2009 overstock to get somewhat of a good deal on a new car in Canada... But the dealers have such small inventories up here that there were not willing to play at all.
Between the two cars you were talking about, I would personally go with the later car. The 09+ DFI engine is pulls almost equivalent to the pre-09 S version and has better mpg and no IMS/RMS issues (time will tell on the reported HPFP failures, but that is a simpler fix).
When comparing the two options, also keep in mind that because of the currency adjustments between CA/USD, Porsche Canada is throwing more "standard" things in the car nowadays to make people feel better about being ripped off here up north. Things that were optional like heated seats are now standard... So you need to make a very detailed comparison to see what you are really leaving on the table going from a "bare" 2010 vs a "loaded" 2008. Titronics seem to be falling down in value so I am not sure I would go that route either - I am not that fond of that tranny personally, but to each his own... PDK is another story altogether...
On top of it, it looks like your interest in the 2008 has more to do with the financial side of things. In that case I would advise checking south of the border - you will get better prices and have way more choices doing that. I essentially bought a FL 600 mile used 09 C2S last spring for the price I would have paid for a 2007-2008 up here. There is no contest on value/finance with that play. Do it yourself, not through the dealer as it seems they are charging 10K+ for the "import" services.
There are plenty of posts in the Canadian section on how to import cars to Canada - it is fairly simple if you go through the steps. PM me if you want more details on how to do it if you are interested.
Regards,
T.
P.S.: You also look like you want PCCB, these are good brakes fo sure, no questions there. But just be aware of the downsides of that option, particularly on a used car, before going for it. Replacements are very expensive if the discs have any cracks in them...

if your concern is the depreciation of the new car, I would not think the 08 is going to save you much if any money in the long run. You are paying $13K more for a two year newer car, that will be a one owner car when you go to sell it. Take a look at 05 vs 07 prices and I would think a $13k difference would be reasonable. So the extra it costs to buy the 2010 will be recaptured in a few years. The 2010 is probably the better car too for all the reasons mentioned so far better mpg, no ims/rms risk and I think the pcm is upgraded but I could be wrong
PDK-2010, all the way. 2009 was a huge change in engine and tranny, also LEDs...........................if you go with '08, you are already out dated from latest improvements.
2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go with the 2010
Unless the 08 is equipped with must have options, the 2010 is probably the better choice.
Sport Exhaust, Sport Chrono, PASM (adjustable suspension) are all options you might find on a Carrera S that are seldom seen on a base Carrera.
Things like sport exhaust can be retrofitted, but at a significant expense.
But I would focus on the transmission. I can't imagine driving an automatic Carrera. I tried to get mine with PDK but it wasn't in inventory anywhere with the options I wanted. I love driving the 6 speed. It's miles above the BMW's box.

Had a 2008 C2S Tiptronic and loved everything about that car except the Tip. If you must get an automatic... then get the PDK with the proper paddles, but the 6 speed manual (what I have in my 2009 C2S) is more involving. This is a decision that you should make after a lot of thought and test drives. By the way I have the short shift kit on my car and it is worth every penny whether you track the car or not.
This is the most important decision you could possibly make on the car in my view. Sat Radio, navigation, Bose Surround, full leather, Carrera/Carrera S ....the decision on the transmission, more than anything else, gets to the character of the car.
I love the 911, but don't forget to test drive the Boxster and Cayman...fantastic cars both!
